I don't think that we ever had tooltips for menu items in MM5. But I just realized (I have never noticed it yet) that we have the tooltips in MM4: https://www.dropbox.com/s/d23eoqc1weucxxe/screenshot%202020-11-05%2012.48.52.png?dl=0 But this would be technically problematic to implement for MM5 -- it would require to create a new window for each tooltip (as in MM5 the tooltips are inside the current window and the menu items are in another window so that it can be shown outside of main window). Therefore I would suggest to not implement it (at least not for 5.0) |

Note that the issues isn't just on the main menu. It also occurs for context menus and menus within the Playing list / Preview window. This isn't an issue for many commands that open submenus, and it seems that many modern apps don't use tooltips in this manner, but it's nonetheless problematic for several commands which aren't obvious such as: - Analyze volume vs Level Track volume - Play now, Play next, Play last, Play shuffled, etc. - Shuffle, Randomize list - ?? others If we decide not to implement this (which probably makes sense), then we should: a) Delete all corresponding tooltip strings (5.0 ?) (I guess it's about 50+ strings) b) Determine whether to disambiguate any of these menu items (5.0.1 ?) |
|
a) I don't see any of these strings included -- so no need to delete them Left opened b) for 5.0.1 (though I am not exactly sure what do you mean by that, so assigned back to you) |

Reseloving. The unused tooltip entries have been removed, and we're not going to add tooltips to commands. |
