Summary | 0001746: Configuring VCD/Preview directories within the scan path doesn't work & causes instability
Description | On many occasions, there have been bugs reported in which files directories weren't scanned because they were placed in a directory that is defined as containing the Virtual CD. In a similar vein, Auto-organize can behave erratically because of this issue. See: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3813 This dependency should not exist, or we should minimize it's likelihood by checking whether the user is changing the location of the Virtual CD directory to a directory that contains Music or other subdirectories that contain music.

While cleaning 2.5 bugs, I wasn't able to figure out what to do with this one. |
Is the solution is to simply not Auto-Organize tracks that are stored to the VCD, and give the user an error message that some tracks could not be moved because they're on the VCD? Pushing from 2.5.1 due to time constraints. |
I'm not sure of the solution to this one, but it's a periodic support issue. Raising to urgent for 3.0. |
What about showing a warning message when user modifies VCD or Preview folder in Options dialog? |
I was hoping for something more automated like MM automatically ignoring requests to scan or monitor such directories. Is that possible? |
Per IM discussion, this would cause performance issues for scanning. Instead a message will be displayed with the user change the directory to one that contains other content (directly or within subdirectories). "The Virtual CD directory contains other content. Please choose a directory that will be used exclusively for the Virtual CD. [OK]" Note: this message should keep popping up if the user tries to exit the VCD config panel without making a change. |
Technically, MM should on user's attempt to modify VCD or Preview folder check, whether any Library content is located at the new path (SQL query that will check out a path of Path and MediaID) and show the given message in case there are already some track located there. Btw, the error dialog should have a Help button linked to a VCD related help topic explaining related issues... |
