Summary0021588: Conversion settings 'default' doesn't convey true meaning
DescriptionAs indicated by LL, when conversion dialogs use a setting of 'default' it's unclear what it means. Most would interpret it to mean 'default settings of the codec', but if it actually means 'use the same settings as the source file' then the current language is misleading.

In that case, 'Same as source' would be more appropriate.

We could also use 'Source', 'Original', or 'Original value' both of which are shorter and already existing strings.

Fixed in build 3154, used "Original", we already use it in video conversions. The AAC codec is fixed as 0021594 and will be included in the next codec pack version.

For M4B, MP4, AAC, M4A, AIFF Default is still used

WMA and MP3 have no original option, should have it as well for certain items.

M4B, MP4, AAC, M4A - as I wrote above, they are fixed in the new codec pack, this cannot be changed in the main app, the related codecs are not there.

AIFF - this is some problem with creating 2024.2 build, as sources are correct, but DLL in builds not, assigning to Petr to fix that.

WMA/MP3 - these codecs are mostly based on presets, they support only some combinations of settings, "Original" cannot be implemented there as expected. It works exactly the same way like in MM4. E.g. MP3 does not support more than 2 channels, and has 3 different kinds of storing two channels, so "Original" is not possible there, it would not be clear, what it will in fact do. Maybe the only place is changing "Auto" to "Original" for Advanced - Sample rate. I did not change it, as it was not requested and the setting was the same in MM4.
WMA has very limited set of settings for every codec, so it is similar, we cannot set original values there quite often, and the set is even different for every WMA codec. So allowing Original there would be misleading.

Resolving. In case MP3/WMA encoding should work differently like last ~20 years, please insert different issue, but as I wrote before, using "original" is problematic there and "Auto" is better for sample rate, because MP3 encoder does not support >48kHz and changes it for higher values. MP4 like codecs are part of codec pack, not MMW installation.
