Summary | 0003696: Podcasts: Downloads don't start as soon as MM starts
Description | As reported by a user, MM should probably initiate podcast update as soon as MM restarts. At the moment it does so after a bit of time so the user has to manually initiate the update.

This is not a bug/issue. e.g. If a user choose Check for new episodes: [Every Week]^ and starts MM several times a day then MM should not check podcasts automatically after each start! I think that now it works correctly: i.e. It starts the process in 30 seconds from MM start. This is because there are often the others threads running in the first 30 seconds of MM start up process. So the podcasts are waiting to update for 30 seconds. |
Per discussion, since it's annoying to some users who start up MM and want to listen to their podcasts, and since there's no danger to starting the thread right away, we may as well do so. |
Fixed in build 1083, it starts in 1 second after MM start up. |
As discussed with Jiri we should start podcasts little bit dalayed (it should start within 5 or 10 seconds). The reason is that if we start it immediatelly it could slow down the other processes that needs to be done after MM startup. Assigning to Rusty for confirmation. |

ok |

Added 10 seconds timeout in build 1300. |
Agreed. Without the delay you can get "MM appears to be frozen" errors on slow systems at startup. I remember seeing the problem on a WXP P3-1000 system. |
Shouldn't we merge it into 3.2 now? |
Merged into 1290. |

Verified 1290. |
