Summary | 0005445: Composer Comments Dialog has incorrect heading
Description | I wasn't aware, but apparently MM supports Composer comments (select a composer node and right-click properties). There's a minor bug, though: the dialog is titled: Artist instead of Composer). note: I would just as soon get rid of the feature altogether--I think that this was added in 3.1, but was never really specced.

You can bring up a Comments dialog for Conductor too, which states "Artist" in the heading. As for removing this feature, why? You can add comments for Artists, and Composers, Conductors and Lyricists all appear in the Artists table, so I would expect they should be able to have comments as well. Besides, Artists can appear as Composers too, so why should I be able to add a comment for them under the Artist node, but not be able to add/edit it under the composer node? |
|
The comments are common for the same Artist, Album Artist, Composer, Conductor and Lyricists and can be entered/altered in any of those nodes. To me that's a feature not a bug. The dialog should perhaps be renamed to "Person" or similar instead of Artist in all these nodes, to better indicate how it works. |

I would suggest to change "Artist Properties" to "Artist" so that we could use "Artist", "Album Artist", "Composer", "Conductor" and "Lyricists" because we have localized these strings. So we can add this to MM 3.1. Rusty, if you agree assign to me for implementation. |

To clarify, I agree that it is a useful feature to be able to store more information about Artists/Composers, etc., but I think that the current implementation needs improvement: -the information is available only via a node's context menu unlike all other metadata which is accessible via the Properties dialog, Tracklist, via reports, etc. -the information isn't searchable (nor should it be given the fact that it is so well hidden) -the information isn't saved to tags (nor are there standardized tags for such comments). This departs from MM's philosophy is to be able to maintain a DB that is always (as much as possible) in sync with tags in a standardized fashion. As far as going ahead with the proposed change by Ludek: sure--that sounds reasonable. |
