Summary | 0006466: Ability to choose input plugin per Filetype
Description | There is several improvements in MediaMonkey which this feature will bring: 1. Currently when there is several input plugins that handle same file type MediaMonkey by default use first plugin that can handle that filetype (based on alphabetical order according to input plugin filenames). Example used for MP3: in_!mpg123.dll - Shibatch mpg123 plugin ver 1.18y in_wmp3.dll - MediaMonkey MP3 Decoder When both plugins are in MM plugins folder MM will always use in_!mpg123.dll for playing MP3 even in_!mpg123.dll is added for support .RMP file format. There is workaround for this behavior by renaming in_!mpg123.dll -> in_wmp321.dll but again this limits novice users ability to easy switch plugin of choice. 2. Faster player response time (Latency), lower CPU usage on starting playback if MM player engine do not query which input plugin (same for format plugins) will handle specific filetype 3. Currently in case that user have MP3Pro file there is no way to switch which input plugin temporary and play the file (Assuming that MP3Pro plugin is already installed) unless it exits MM -> Open Windows Explorer -> navigate to MM plugins folder -> rename MediaMonkey default plugin (so that filename is alphabetically behind MP3Pro input plugin filename) -> Open MM -> Play/Convert the file -> Exits MM -> Open Windows Explorer -> navigate to MM plugins folder -> rename MM default plugin to original filename before it continue normal MP3 functionality -> Start MM -> Continue with MM usage. Using proposed mockup for 0006042 user would need to Open Options -> File Types -> Select MP3Pro input plugin as default for MP3 -> Play/convert file -> Open Options -> File Types -> Select Default MP3 input plugin -> Continue usage of MM. NOTE: Mockups of 0006042 are uploaded on FTP under its bug number
