Summary | 0007601: Soundcheck/Replay gain data lost on iPod/iPhone and autoconversion
Description | When tracks are auto-converted for iPods/iPhone, volume analysis tags are lost. This results in auto-converted tracks having no volume leveling after conversion. The alternative is to simply level track volume on the fly, however the user is warned against this when checking the box. Also, the volume leveling + volume analysis tags for tracks that will not be converted could make the tracks too soft or too loud.

There shouldn't be a need for any new feature or UI--just that when MM auto-converts a track, it should regenerate the Replay Gain value for the converted track (if the source track had replay gain information). |

I tested under MM 4.0.0.1367 and it works well for me - i.e. upon auto-conversion (e.g. from OGG to MP3) it correctly copies the source volume leveling to iPod/iPhone database. I'm not sure whether it was the same under MM 3.2.x, haven't tested it. Note that the leveling value isn't recalculated upon auto-conversion, since normally the value is modified only by a negligible amount (<0.5 dB) and so there's no reason to calculate it again. |
