Summary | 0000831: Make skin engine support a 'TV mode' with large icons (and create new skin)
Description | It should be possible to switch MM into a television mode that uses large fonts and provides a subset of features. This may or may not be the same as the party mode described at: 0000520

Maybe modification of Party Mode could be used for TV Mode? |
Jiri, using the new skinning engine, will it be possible to create MediaMonkey - Media Centre skins? i.e. a skin in which the various buttons are large, and the fonts are also large. |
I will study it in more details later, but as far as I know, it isn't only about creating a new skin, MCE has some special design rules, so it won't be that easy to support it. |
I think that General Plugin or some variation could be made to send XML to MCE when Needed. Releated forum Topics: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9012 http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3086 Regarding new skin Engine, When we add support for extended Skin features (planned for future versions of Player Skin Engine as there is reserved space in engine itself for that) MiniPlayer Skin could be made to be full screen and MediaCenter on its own. Nero have done that with Nero Home (inside Nero 7), Cuberlink do that with PowerCinema, ... (those two I have tested and used) |
Why can't we just create a skin that allows for the use of all aspects of MM on a TV? |

As addition to my last post there is several reasons why this do not work: 1. Win MCE is developed so that it can be controlled thrum Remote Controller http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/cyberstore/order_44_ENU.html http://ati.amd.com/products/remotewonder/index.html http://ati.amd.com/products/remotewonder2/index.html http://ati.amd.com/products/remotewonderplus/index.html http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/features/harmony/us/en,CRID=2078 http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/article1522.html http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1830 (That I haven't tested as it is too expensive, but I Own ATI RW and Cyberlink remote) All above except Philips probably support commands described here, ATI Uses its own driver and Plugin API to make support (as already known I have made working ATI plugin) http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms867196.aspx#remote_control_topic4 MM Currently do not intercept most of those commands even some if not all commands are sent thrum Multimediakeyboards. NOTE: By Solving Bug 0002430 there is good chance to make space in MM for adding HID remote control support thrum Keyboard Shortcuts. 2. Even I left Space to create Extended Skin commands and Custom Buttons in Player Skinning it would be much more difficult to make Full screen skin than make XML parser to MCE API thrum MCE XML API 3. Even we make fullscreen skin it must comply to MCE rules which return us back to MCE API and XML or making full MultimediaCentre functionality like Nero Home ( http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/Nero_Home.html ), ATI MultiMediaCenter ( http://ati.de/products/multimediacenter/index.html ), Cyberlink PowerCinema ( http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_12_ENU.html ),... I hope that I have made things more clear. |

Per discussion with Petr, the only real obstacle at the moment is the fact that large icons aren't yet supported. |
