Summary0009575: Album Art is missing for many tracks after initial scan
DescriptionAfter a clean install (build 15), upon scrolling through the Album view, a large number of tracks are missing album art.

Some of the Albums contain single tracks, others contain multiple tracks. The only commonality that I see among the various files that are missing album art is that they all, in addition to possessing Album Art within the tags, also have an albumart.jpg and albumart.pmp file within the directory containing the tracks.

Another strange bit is that if I open the Google Music Player and look at those same tracks, the album art will appear. If I then look at the tracks in MediaMonkey for Android after having done so in the Google Player, then the Album Art appears in MM (even though no changes appear to have been made to either the track or the albumart files)!!

Tested on Gingerbread.

I try it on build 15 and actual release too, but I have no missing album Art. Please try whether the issue is still actual.

I tried on build 23, and the problem still occurs. Note that to trigger the problem, I have to sync new tracks to the device that haven't been viewed with the Google Music application.

If it still doesn't occur with you after doing so, re-assign back to me, and I'll try to figure out more.

Please let me know some details. I tried it many times with both GB and JB, but the artworks was there everytime.

Tested build 32 and I'm still able to replicate it on my GB device. However, here's a bit more information about how to trigger the bug:

1 Uninstall MMA, delete all data files, delete MediaMonkey directory)
2 Re-install MM and run
3 Go to the Albums directory, and slowly scan downwards (e.g. from A...C)
-->Album art appears as expected for the files that are in view
4 _Rapidly_ scan downwards (e.g. from D...F)
-->Many of the albums beginning with D...F will be missing Album Art!
-->Many of the albums from G...Z are also missing their album Art!
Note: switching views doesn't cause the Album Art to appear, nor does stopping/restarting MM.
5 Access tracks from albums beginning with D...Z in Google music app
-->Upon scrolling through those albums in MMA, the Album Art appears!

Summary: the problem is triggered by quickly scrolling through Albums the first time that artwork is being loaded, and is easier to trigger on a slower device (that can't keep up with initial artwork loading during a fast scroll). Perhaps initial thumbnail generation shouldn't be tied to UI scrolling?

Build 37

I added updating of artworks from MediaStore to our DB when our artwork is invalid or not set and MediaStore contains valid artwork.

I've found out that some albums didn't contain an artwork even in Music app they were. So I add this update.

But I cannot reproduce behaviour you describe on JB. I will downgrade my phone to GB a check it there.

Fixed in build 39

I fixed removing invalid paths to album artworks from database.

I added observer on MediaStore's album artwork cache directory to scan it's changes

I added a mechanism how to force MediaStore to generate album artwork

Tested build 40 on Sony Xperia Pro, and the issue remains, exactly as before--artwork is missing for many tracks, and appears only after viewing the track/album with the Android music app.

As of build 41 it seems that the problem may be related to a failed scanning thread which prevents album art from being loaded on the initial scan.

However, tested build 42 on JB and now a variant of this bug is also occurring on JB:
1 Wait for MM to scan all tracks
2 Open the Artists view
-->the Album art displays correctly
3 Scroll to the bottom of the list
-->all AA displays as expected
4 Scroll back up to the top of the list
-->many tracks are missing album art!!
5 Exit to the main menu and go back to the Artists view
-->tracks are still missing album art
6 Exit to the main menu and go to the Albums view
-->All album art displays as expected
7 Exit to the main menu and go back to the Artists view
-->Now all album art displays as expected!

Summary:
Although the initially described bug may be related to failed _scanning_ of Album art ( http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=9768#c32385 ), there also seems to be a bug regarding _rendering_ of album art that has been correctly scanned, and the only way to get the art to display is by switching views.
Exit to the main menu and

Note: perhaps the failed rendering problem is the same as that resolved here?

Tested build 43, and the initially reported failed scanning problem no longer occurs. However, the subsequently recorded failed thumbnail rendering issue ( http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=9575#c32387 ) remains.

I've found simple steps to consistently reproduce it on both GB and JB:

For step 4, instead of doing a standard scroll up, instead scroll up / down / up / down / up / down _using_the_scrollbar_.
--> the bug always occurs.

Interestingly, the bug only occurs in Main Menu > Artists view. It doesn't seem to occur in any other views.

Petr has indicated to me that in build 56, Album art was missing on two separate devices upon which build 56 was the first build installed:

ZTE Blade phone (JB 4.1.1)
Tesco tablet - MyAudio series 10 (ICS 4.0.4)

I can confirm same thing, on my LG-E610, after installing 59 and Sync with MMW, all Album Arts were gone.

Only MMW enabled Tagging setting for device is Copy Artwork to tag.

NOTE that I have deleted \MediaMonkey\Files folder which crashed MM.

I can also confirm on my Galax Nexus, synced MMA 59 with MMW 1605 over MTP, files were there including artwork, but thumbnails for artist/album were missing. So in my case it looks that MMA doesn't generate thumbs for tracks synced from MMW, but only for tracks synced from media store?
