Summary | 0009594: Default Player functionality doesn't work for audio, confusing for video
Description | As of build 19, there are several issues with how MMA functions with respect to Android defaults: 1) If an MP3 or other audio file is opened in another application, the 'Open with' dialog shows all audio player apps except MediaMonkey. In contrast, when opening a video, MediaMonkey does appear in the application list. It should appear in both. 2) The option to use MediaMonkey as the default video player should be disabled by default since the MM video player doesn't support all the formats that other apps do. 3) The text re. the video player doesn't read well. It should be changed as follows: Default video player Use Media Monkey video player as default ----> Use to play video Use MediaMonkey to play video by default

2) It's currently this way, so that video playback in MM just works, i.e. there's no need to ask for default application for the first video playback. I think that it makes sense this way, since also by default sync configuration in MMW, all videos would be playable by MMA. For users having different videos, this option can easily be modified (but I don't think that it would be needed too often). |
|
2) I find that there are a fair number of videos that don't play in MM. But here's another suggestion: MM should 'know' if it is unable to play certain videos (because it's unable to generate a thumbnail). How about it defaults to using MM, but if it is unable to play a video, it pops up the 'choose application' dialog? |

Ok, assigning to Martin to implement 1-3. |

Tested build 29: 1) MediaMonkey appears in the Open With dialog, but upon clicking MediaMonkey, MediaMonkey opens and an error appears: Error Unsupported format [OK] Note the error appears for MP3s that are playable in MM, and the files do play correctly in other apps. This is tested by running ES file explorer, and clicking an MP3 file. 2) Unclear whether this works or not: a) When clicking an MP4 file that MM can't generate a Thumbnail for, MM tries to play it instead of giving the user a choice of using a third-party app. b) Video files that are unrecognized by Android don't show up in MMA (e.g. an .avi file doesn't show up in the MM library after it is copied to the Video directory) 3) The suggested text change isn't implemented. |
|
Note that 2b) can't be solved until we implement custom scanning (some future version). |
