Summary | 0010198: Text improvements to the sync UI
Description | Based on forum feedback I'd suggest the following tweaks to the sync UI strings: 1) Sync to this location [x] Sync to this location You can configure basic.... ---> Sync to this location [x] Choose whether to sync to this particular location on the device. You can configure basic.... 2) Auto-sync to the server Sync tracks from this device to the server ---> Auto-sync items on the device Choose which directories on the device to keep in sync 3) Auto-sync to this device Choose which items to sync from the server to this device ---> Auto-sync items on the server Choose which items on the server to keep in sync 4) Change the order as follows: Auto-sync items on the server Auto-sync items on the device Delete items that are unselected Delete all other media files

Re. 1) and 2), I was reviewing the MM8 UI and thought that the following could work better as it would eliminate the auto-sync items on the server entry: Auto-sync _selected server content_ with this location [x] Choose which items on the server to keep in sync with this location. You can configure basic sync settings on your device, but for more detailed configuration, connect your device directly to the MediaMonkey server, and configure the Sync settings on the server directly. Auto-sync _selected device content_ [ ] Choose which directories on the device to keep in sync Delete unselected content from the device [ ] Deletes unselected files and playlists from the device if a backup exists on the server. Delete all other unselected content from the device [ ] Deletes unselected files and playlists from the device, even if they don't exist on the server. |
The titles you suggest (from MM8) are too long for phone devices. I.e. on my SGSII with quite wide screen I can't even see the current titles: Delete items that are unselec. [ ] It has to be something shorter. |
How about this? Note that there are some items that can't be shortened further--we'll need to make the options scrollable. <Sync Location> ------------------------------------------- Sync to this location [x] Auto-sync server content [config icon] Select items on the server to sync with this location. Additional settings (e.g. auto-conversion) are configurable directly on the MediaMonkey server. Auto-sync device content [ ] Sync files and playlists on the device with the server (directories are selected on the server). Delete unselected content copies from the device [ ] Deletes unselected files and playlists from the device if copies exist on the server. Delete all unselected content from the device [ ] Deletes unselected files and playlists from the device, even if copies don't exist on the server. Note--the changes are: - delete redundant 'Sync to this location' - config icon next to 'Auto-sync server content' - various text changes to shorten the strings - re-ordered first 2 config entries In addition, we should add an 'Enabled' indicator if a sync location has been enabled on the Options screen. i.e. WI-FI SYNC Select sync server Sync server: <sync server> Sync Location/Settings <sync location 1> [config icon] Enabled <sync location 2> [config icon] |

Texts was changed in build 93 |
A couple of issues in build 93: 1) no descriptive text is needed for 'sync to this location' 2) Is it possible to wrap the 'Delete unselected...' and 'Delete all unselected...' text ? 3) The 'Enabled' indicator doesn't appear to indicate which Sync Location is active (when more than one exists). This is particularly important for devices that have more than one Sync Location so that it's clear which one is active. Marek indicated that it's impossible to accurately indicate which one is enabled since this status only becomes available during server selection. Consequently, an alternative approach was suggested: To add a 'Last synced: mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm' indicator (if a WiFi sync operation has taken place). |

1) fixed in build 98 3) fixed in build 98 |
2)I added wrapping to smaller devices. I also removed redundant "from the device" from titles because I think it is redundant and it is already in summary text. So I think it is clear that it is related to the device. - I didn't add an icon to "Auto-sync server content" because it is not necessary. It is clear that simple two lines preferences leads to submenus where user can configure something. |
