This is probably due to the 30 day restriction on the beta codec and it was released 30+ days ago. This means the message probably should be adjusted as it didn't indicate the trial was expired. I saw the 30 day expired message when I synced some videos that required conversion to MP4. |
|
Current behavior in case of expired codec pack is: 1) for video conversion, it shows missing codec dialog, i.e. "MediaMonkey is unable to encode this format.", with button, which leads to the page defined for EVH264 or EVAAC or EVMP3 or EVMPEG4, i.e. http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/browse/item/mediamonkey-codec-pack/ 2) when confirming autoconversion rule for video conversion, the same behavior as in 1) 3) when confirming autoconversion rule for audio (MP4/M4A/M4B/AAC), it allows changing rule without any message. 4) for audio conversion to MP4/M4A/M4B/AAC, it shows unlocalized message "Due to licensing restrictions, the trial version of the AAC Plug-in is limited to a 30-day trial period. For unrestricted AAC encoding please upgrade. Do you wish to upgrade?" which leads to http://registeraac.mediamonkey.com. I think, this behavior should be somehow unified. Rusty? |

Re. 4) I couldn't get to this message via Tools > Convert format or via the Sync > auto-conversion options. How did you get to it? Note: there definitely shouldn't be any links from MMW 4.x to http://registeraac.mediamonkey.com, since the AAC Plugin was replaced by the Codek Pack. If this bug does in fact exist, it should be fixed right away. Re. 3) My experience was slightly different--the opposite, in fact: - When attempting to convert Video to MP4 --> MM allows the user to configure the codec settings, but upon clicking 'OK' to accept the settings, the 'MediaMonkey is unable to encode this format.' dialog appears. - When attempting to convert Audio to M4A --> MM doesn't allow the user to make any configuration changes. Ideally, all codec configuration usecases should take the same approach i.e.: - If the codec is missing, indicated e.g. 'MP4 (download)' so that it's clear that the codec is missing and needs to be downloaded - If the user attempts to configure a codec that has the '(download)' label, then the 'MediaMonkey is unable to encode to this format' dialog should appear (i.e. the user shouldn't have to go through the codec configuration before seeing the dialog) - If the trial codec is installed, but has expired, then the 'Due to licensing restrictions, the trial version of the %s is limited to a 30-day trial period. For unrestricted use please upgrade. Do you wish to upgrade?' message should appear. |

4) fixed in build 2.1.1.103 |

The rest fixed in build 1642. Added using trial expired message and added "trial" and "trial-expired" (besides "download"), so it will be more clear, what is going on. |
