Summary | 0011514: Portable: MMW is not started as portable (regression)
Description | 1. Uninstall old version from System it prompts for MSSCript.ocx Deletion and user say NO, MSSCRIPT.OCX is still deleted from system32 folder ??? 2. Install in Separate Folder as portable like c:\MMWtemp 3. Start and Set portable folder (even copy MM.Db from Users\<USR>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey) 4. Close MMW 5. Install regular version into c:\MMWtemp 6. Launch MMW on installation end 7. MMW loads Users\<USR>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB instead of portable version Any subsequent starts loads \<USR>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB unless you either install new portable MMW to c:\MMWtemp2 This was found during debugging WRO-376461 NOTE: User uses Vista SP2

@Peke, I think that it is all right that if you installed regular version into c:\MMWtemp (step 5) then regular version is launched. I don't understand what the bug is here, can you eleborate? |
In steps 1-4 User Set Full Portable Version into c:\MMWtemp\ Including c:\MMWtemp\Portable\ and it is working as it should. But as he wants to register MMW COM Server without using CMD line he also installed regular version on top into c:\MMWtemp\ Portable folder is preserved and set (Step 5, due the fact that MSSCript.ocx was deleted from system32 folder and he wants to have scripting working). Now each time he starts MMW it starts as regular version and reads Users\<USR>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey instead of .\Portable settings and library |
If he installed regular version on top into c:\MMWtemp\ portable then it is logical that it starts as regular version. Workaround for him is to install portable on top into c:\MMWtemp\ , this way it will be changed back from regular to portable. |

It should be handled similar as 0010759 first time if should let user chose which version to start? Personally I would prefer that if portable folder exist and mediamonkey.ini contains not just [Portable] IsPortable=1 but also [System] JustInstalled=0 than it should be started as portable and if MM.DB is missing prompt for import like in your proposal in 0010759:0035751 |
Resolved as "no change requires", because I still think that if one installs regular version on top of portable then it is logical that it starts as regular version. It was also the point of the regression here: 0010759:0035747 The further proposals are tracked in 0010759 as you indicated. |
