Summary0011634: Playlist supported format setup
DescriptionTrying to setup the Playlist settings for a USB stick in the Device Profile.

1) Playlist format shows greyed out M3U.
2) Select Set Formats and enabled PLA.
3) Playlist format remains greyed out M3U.

I'd suspect that it should've changed to PLA as that is not set as Supported Formats (as confirmed in Auto Conversions settings). Even disconnecting and reconnecting the USB stick didn't change this.

Upon sync with changed settings the following was seen:

- Playlist was synced as M3U instead of PLA
- Generate Device Playlists for Artist is checked, non are on device

Changing Set Formats to other formats than PLA does work and sets Playlist format to the chosen format. So it is only broken for PLA. When multiple formats are chosen including PLA, PLA isn't listed as option.

USB stick can't sync PLA, .pla is abstract playlist created only for MTP/WMDM devices, therefore the PLA is missing from the dropdown entirely.

As you found the others types like XSPF, ASX, PLS, WAX are presented in the dropdown (when configured in the Supported Formats) and can be properly synced.

The problem then is that PLA can be selected when setting up Supported Formats. It should be greyed out (+ documentation).

The reason I was trying to use PLA was for use in Android device (connect USB stick to Android phone).

Yes, it can be added manually by user to the 'Supported Formats' (same as any other format), but PLA cannot be selected in the "Playlist Format" combo as expected, so I don't think there is a confusion.

In 'Supported Formats' user can select formats that he knows is supported by particular device, so it can be whatever format.

I don't follow. A user can set PLA as supported, but can't sync Playlists as PLA. This seems unexpected and confusing. If a user is able to select PLA as supported format the user would expect to be able to sync Playlists as PLA.

Resolved as 'no change required', the point of allowing users to manually select PLA as supported was to deal with situation when a device improperly notifies that it doesn't support PLA, but e.g. some applications support it.

I still don't see the logic of allowing to set it as Supported Format, but not allowing to set it as Playlist Sync Format.
