Summary | 0012207: Sync location isn't automatically enabled in MMW
Description | If the user performs an initial Wi-Fi sync operation to the external SDcard via MMA on a new device, then the sync operation proceeds and the 'New Device External SD Card' is enabled as a Portable Sync Device in MMW. If the user subsequently attempts to initiate a Wi-Fi sync operation to the _internal_ memory via MMA, then the config changes to the device occur, however, the device doesn't become enabled in MMW. The net result is that sync operations continue to succeed (for the external SD card), but nothing happens regarding synchronization to the internal memory, and the user is confused as to why, since there's nothing in MMA that would indicate why it's not working. The workaround is that the user should manually enable the sync profile for the internal memory, but most users wouldn't realize that this needs to be done. Wouldn't it make sense for MMW to automatically enable the sync profile in the same manner as with an initial sync operation?

Now it is implemented this way: 1. All profiles are enabled at the beginning 2. MMA shows dialog to select a storage to sync 3. MMA DISABLES OTHERS 4. MMA shows settings for selected sync I remember that this was implemented this way because many users prefer only one storage to sync. But I think that this might be nicely solved with the new sync wizard 0011982 , that might be implemented shortly. |

Per discussion with Marek: The MMA UI already has a 'Sync to this location' checkbox which corresponds directly to whether a sync profile is 'Enabled' in MMW. I just overlooked it because the UI was enabled. The solution to prevent this from happening is for the sync UI to show up as disabled until the user Enables the profile. Setting target as 1.1.0 in case of usability regressions. |
