| Description | Movies related UI in MM5 is currently pretty lacking, due to some unfinished work probably even worse than in MM4. Some items to be reviewed: 1. Better metadata retrieval - already discussed in other Mantis issues. 1b. Related is a possible better separation of Movies and Series, possibly with an addition of the third category for other types, like home Videos, etc. I.e. to have categories Movies, TV/Series and Video and to try to split videos to these categories. 2. Simplified List should be optimized for Videos, i.e. to suggest the most important columns and their layout. 3. Better Series UI (probably per 0014048 to convert the current Album view to a new Series view). 4. Ordering of the grid view (however, this is generic, even to Music, we need to implement it somehow for all grid views). | ||||

1) Yes, including better folder/filename reading. 1b) Yes, adding the Movies Type and Collection is essential for better management of a Movie catalog in MediaMonkey. The Criteria for Type = Movies is that folder contains \Movies\ (problem is with \Home Movies\ or \Homemovies\). 5) Improve Collection root view 5a) Movies and TV/Series should show Recently Added and Recently Released (full dates should be retrieved by MM). Recently Watched would be nice, but less important as user is likely not going to watch same movie/TV episode again. 5b) TV/Series should have Up Next. This would show the next episode based on the highest episode watched within MM. This would only show Episodes that are from Series where anything has been watched. 5c) Horizontal scrolling to show more content would be nice. It doesn't need to be infinite for Recently Added and Recently Released, but would need to be for Up Next. 5d) Allow clicking on headers Recently Added, Recently Released to show that Collection sorted by that Criteria. Up Next would show all Series with watched episodes that haven't had all episodes watched. 6) Improve Grid view MM doesn't provide an easy and quick method to navigate a large multi-thousand video Library, particularly for the purpose of watching content. 6a) Grid View provides no sorting capabilities (Date Added, Release Date, Name, Rating, Duration, Date Viewed would be some of the useful sorting options). 6b) Grid View provides no filter capabilities (for All Videos node). This would be useful to get from a large list to a smaller more usable list. Any Tag supported by MM is up for inclusion. Filters would persist over sessions. 6c) Grid View should show Movie Title and Release Date (as sometimes movies have the same Title like remakes). 7) No Details view MM doesn't provide a detail view of a video file. 7a) Detailed view would show all pertinent information about the video. With Movie and TV files this would be depending on online retrieved information. 7b) It should also show more in Collection for Movies (like Die Hard Collection). |

1) As discussed at #15491, we can add a Type=Movie that is only manually assigned (i.e. based on a directory chosen by the user, rather than via auto-detection). Improvements to scanning & metadata retrieval are described at #14571. 1b) As suggested by Lowlander, we may want to add Collection=Movies, primarily to distinguish the collection and associated settings from Video, though it's not clear that it's really required--many apps manage TV and Movies from within a single view. As to other changes, we should probably limit them to the following for 5.0: 2) Lists: leave as is--users can customize 5) Video/TV Root view: a) 'Recently added' should be changed to 'Recent added (unwatched)' - It should contain both Files that are unwatched and Series that contain unwatched files. i.e. if a file is part of a series, it should display only within the Series. b) Add 'Continue Watching' row of videos. It should contain: - Nodes for individual files that haven't been completed (e.g. bookmark positioned with > 2% of the video unwatched) - Nodes for Series in which episodes exist that haven't been watched - The nodes above should be listed in order most recently watched files - Files should be displayed with bookmark indicators (so that it's clear which files have been watched and how much remains) e) change nodes: - name: 'All Series' to 'Series' - Remove: Classification - Add: Year f) Change view name: List (by Album) --> List (by Series) note: Ideally files/series should display with their artwork (rather than thumbnails) as suggested in #14571 6)Grid Views: See LL's comments. They're all pretty basic. b) I do see filtering, but the default filtering attributes are more for Music than for Videos. Most relevant items for filtering for Videos would be: Series, Director, Genre, Date, Date Added, Duration (minutes), Rating, Date Viewed d) Genres > GenreName: currently represented by MusicThumbnails instead of Video/TV/Movie thumbnails!? Video Root view: based on LL's suggestion: [all videos] [Series] [Genres] ... 7) Details view: As suggested by LL, clicking a video once should show details of the Video |
