Summary | 0001574: First-time synchronization should not occur without configuration
Description | If a user clicks 'Synchronize' before synchronization has been configured, the user should always be shown to a configuration screen so that they are at least aware of what the operation is going to do! It's very disconcerting to click that and then all of a sudden have thousands of files being copied when the user expected to be asked _what_ files should be synchronized. Note: as discussed previously, this could be default behavior as well (i.e. clicking Auto-Synchronize could always open the synchronization dialog, and the user just presses <enter> to proceed).

Maybe you are right, but on the other hand then the auto-synchronization wouldn't be just a one-click process. Were users complaining much about this? Do you really want to change the behaviour? |

Users haven't complained about this issue. The bug was raised primarily because of the fact that when I tried to synch for the first time, it didn't prompt me to configure a synchronization profile. (this is still the case in build 804). Nonetheless, my guess is that showing this dialog when the user clicks the 'Synch' button probably would be a good idea. It would eliminate confusion about _which_ device is being synchronized & make it obvious _what_ is being synchronized. |
|
I don't think it's that big problem because user has to do something in order to make synchronization working (configure the general device or download a device plug-in). Also now there are warnings in case the set of tracks selected for synchronization doesn't fit the device and so user can terminate the action. I would keep it for now and try to get some feedback from users. |
