Summary0015975: Properties: Details Tab there should be a button to Re-scan file information
DescriptionIn properties Details Tab there should be a button to Refresh file information.

This would resolve many issues requested overtime:
- Updated Track Metadata in third party app (currently whole folder needs to be re scanned
- Update Track info in cases user replace file with better version
- Fix bad codec issues where some data was missing or wrongly read
- Fix DB corruption (it happen several times over the years)

It should be added in separate parts:
1. Button would initiate File scan and update basic File data Size, length, format, KBPS, Bit rate, ...
2. Present dialog with table like data (eg. like Auto Tag from filename) changes and highlighted metadata differences so that user can choose which to update

I don't think that a refresh button should be there. If any, then auto-update should work (like it already works in file-listing).
This could be problematic though -- for the already edited values that should be auto-updated.

Sounds like a lower priority 5.1 issue though.

EDIT: Maybe Peke means the situations where user replaced a file in a third party app (has disabled folder monitoring) and wants to re-scan just the file?
Assigned to Rusty to evaluate, but I don't think that such a button belongs to Properties dialog.

Yes--I think that Peke is really asking for a way of manually (re)scanning files for cases where changes made externally don't appear within MM.

I don't think that this is a very high priority feature, but agree that it could be useful in some circumstances since the alternative involves numerous steps (i.e. Exit Properties, Right-click the file, Find more from same folder, initiate scan, navigate back, select the file, right-click Properties).

This could be via a Rescan button at the top of the dialog.

Note: should the feature be limited to _re_scanning? I think maybe yes, since a scan button could easily result in cases where this could result in tracks accidentally being scanned into the library (e.g. if the user 'rescans' tracks that are being browsed via UPnP) ?

You are right rusty.

It is intended per single track update not monitor/rescan as it can risk updating non wanted tracks.

Examples:
case 1: Updated track metadata in MP3TAG = Properties -> Details -> Refresh -> Prompt to update desired changes
case 2: Replaced MP3 Track with freshly ripped FLAC using steps in #15973 = Properties -> Details -> Refresh and file details are updated, added left as is, because it is just replacement of existing track to better quality not newly added track (This is crucial case because there is lots of our users that have Track statistics of 10+ years)
case 3: Previous MM plugin didn't correctly read file info or file info got corrupted (no matter the reason) = Properties -> Details -> Refresh and file details are updated

I know it is tedious and long process but many users would appreciate that. It is like you have 2k of pics in your facebook account timeline and then you want to upgrade pic quality. Uploading new would also not reflect your old timeline so if you can upgrade existing pictures with better quality is life saver.

Reading the forum post the user is rather asking for action to re-scan selected files, this would rather evolve to a new action in context menu for selected files?
