Summary0001617: New CD Burning Wizard
DescriptionThis bug describes CD burning functionality at a high level, along with how it is activated via the Burn CD wizard, and configured in the options panel.

The Burn CD wizard is activated via the 'Burn' button on the playlist editor. It appears as follows:

------------------------------------------------------------
| Burn CD Wizard
|-----------------------------------------------------------
| Choose an operation:
|
| (o) Burn standard Audio CD
| ( ) Burn Data CD with compressed audio
| ( ) Erase CD
|
|
|
|-----------------------------------------------------------
| Total: xx KB, yy:zz [Options] . . . . . [Next] [Cancel]
------------------------------------------------------------

In the lower left corner, the Total figure should appear:
-Green if it is > 10 MB below the Media Capacity (specified in the Options panel)
-Yellow if it is < 10 MB below the Media Capacity
-Red if it is > Media Capacity

Clicking the 'Options' button brings the user to the Burn CD Options in the options panel, until the user clicks [ok] or [cancel] within the options panel.

Throughout the wizard, the above size & format should be maintained.

The Burn CD options panel appears as follows:
CD
 - CD Burning
 - CD Ripping

In other words, the configuration tree should be altered slightly.

In speccing the CD Burning panel, I wrestled with the the degree to which CD burning options should be exposed each time the user initiates a burn, vs. how many should be 'hidden' in the panel. What you'll see below is a compromise that 'hides' the configuration items that are rarely used, but makes accessible those which I felt are frequently needed.

The CD Burning configuration panel contains the following:

On the left hand size:
Drive selection box similar to that used on the CD Ripping Panel

On the right-hand side, the following drive-specific configuration items:
[ ] Use ASPI driver (note: based on assumption that this may be needed)
[ ] Cache to Hard drive before burning

Media Size: ______v (dropdown options: [74 minute, 650 MB CD]; 80 minute, 700 MB CD; 3.95 GB DVD; 4.7 GB DVD)

[Drive Status] This is a button that when clicked, results in Drive Status dialog appearing.

------------------------------------------------------------
| Drive Status
|-----------------------------------------------------------
| --Drive-------------------------------------------------
| | Model: ___________ . . . . Buffer Memory: __________
| | Manufacturer: _____ . . . . CD Text: _____________
| | Firmware: _________ . . . . Drive Type: ___________
| |-------------------------------------------------------
|
| --Current Media-----------------------------------------
| | Media Type: _______ . . . . Space Available: _______
| | Burn Speed: _______ . . . . Space Used: ____________
| | Sessions: _________ . . . . Total Space: ___________
| |
| | Session | Track | Start | Length | Mode
| | xxx......yyyy....zzzzz...aaaaa...bbbbb
| | table is filled with data specific to inserted cd
| -------------------------------------------------------
|
|-----------------------------------------------------------

Additional InformationThis bug was originally written to describe the need for built-in CD burning functionality to replace the CD creation via Nero as a means of making it competitive with similar products. It has morphed into a description of the CD burning wizard + CD burner options.

Child Bugs:
0000349 Data CD Burning (wizard)
0000917 Audio CD Burning (wizard)
0000918 Erase CD functionality

Related to:
#567 Playlist Editor / Trackbasket

Note: This functionality should be developed in conjunction with the CD Label tool (since if user is already using an external CD Writer tool, then it means that they likely already have a label printing utility included with that tool.

The 'CD Burning' sheet implemented by me seems to be useless right now. I suggest to remove it and 'Drive Status' button move to the 'Burn Settings' panel in the Burning Wizard. Jiri share my opinion.

This seems to be pretty much done. The only thing that should be added is some clarification re. the difference between the different types of CDs. Please assign to Rusty if everything else is done.

There should be any text changes re. support DVD burning too.

Here are all the cosmetic changes to fix the wizard:

1) Title bar: Text should be changed as follows:
Audio CD Burning Wizard --> Disc Burning Wizard

2) Welcome Text: The alignment of the heading should be corrected (aligned with the text below it). The text should be changed as follows:
Welcome to the CD burning wizard! --> Welcome to the disc burning wizard!

3) Text box: The text shouldn't appear in such a narrow column. It should be changed to:
This wizard will help you burn a standard Audio CD for playback on any CD player or a Data CD/DVD for use on other computers or devices that support MP3 and other compressed audio formats. Please choose an option to proceed:

4) Options should be changed to:
(o) Burn Audio CD (for any CD player)
( ) Burn Data CD/DVD (for PCs and CD/DVD players supporting MP3, WMA, etc.)
( ) Erase CD/DVD

5) 'Back' button on the first page of the wizard should not be shown.

Ludek indicated that this is resolved.

Tested in 901 and 2 minor issues remain re. issue 3):

a) The width of the paragraph should be increased--I think it should be equal to the width of the text that appears next to the radio buttons below.

b) a ',' should appear after 'CD Player' i.e.

This wizard will help you burn a standard Audio CD for playback on any CD player, or a Data CD/DVD for use on other computers or devices that support MP3 and other compressed audio formats. Please choose an option to proceed:
