Summary | 0016554: Ability to choose custom output device
Description | Martin suggested that it would be useful for MM to be able to set a non-default custom output device. For example: Options > Player > Output --> Output --------------------------- Output Plug-ins ... ... ... Output device: (o) Default output device ( ) Speakers (Realtek audio) ( ) Dell Monitor (Intel Display Audio) ( ) Anker Soundsource (Bluetooth) Additionally, this setting would ideally be accessible via the Cast button by adding a [Configure] button next to the internal player.

The reason I set the priority to 'normal' and for 5.1 is that: a) I don't believe that many users switch b/w Bluetooth/Standard audio output often (since Windows isn't used in phones that continually switch from one environment to another) b) if needed, chances are they'd want to do so via the system settings (so that the change would would apply for all apps). Even on MMA/Android, switching to bluetooth is usually done via system settings. |

I can imagine it being useful when DJ-ing: when one MM instance could be used for preview (output to headphones) while another MM instance (or another app) would be playing to the production output. As for the complexity: I think that if the 'gear' icon associated with 'Internal Player' would be just shurtcut to the current output plugin config -- then it is easy and could be for 5.0. The UI suggested by Rusty is not so easy and would be for 5.1 with lower priority. |

Fixed in build 2244 by the gear button for Internal player option. Resolving to test, maybe could be enough? |
|
1) Verified 2245 2) Right clicking on Cast Icon do not give an option to choose player, user needs to click on icon to get list which implies that user enable casting not that you select cast destination. 2a) MM4 Right click contained option to choose player maybe we can add it in MM5 when not clicked on any specific player function not related to playback, but include on PLAY,PAUSE and similar. 3) Gear Icon should also be available in Context as right aligned of "Player (Options)" to replace MM4 Configure Output Plugin. |
|
I would suggest that the current implementation is fine for 5.0. But since the current implementation doesn't meet the original usecase's requirements (to add the ability to switch between output devices), this should remain open for MM5.1. Agreed? |
|
The gear button next to "Internal Player" opens dialog with the possibility to change output device, so the ability is there. It is in this dialog, because output device is part of inner settings of output plugin. |
