Summary | 0000173: Player should temporarily override incorrect mixer settings
Description | Occasionally, other applications set the mixer in a manner that causes failed playback of CD ripping/playback (e.g. if other app mutes CD audio). Songs-DB should temporarily overide such settings so that playback and recording is optimal. I believe that this means: Playback: -unmute CD audio -unmute wav Recording: ??? Once Songs-DB has been closed, the mixer should revert to previous settings--unless the user has made changes to the mixer while Songs-DB was running.

I don't like these changes in mixer settings by applications. You are right that there are some reasons for it (actually only playback, ripping is not influenced), but that could be solved by using digital audio CD plug-in or adding such support to the current audio CD plug-in. Anyway, quite minor issue I think. |

I don't like overiding system configs either, but if it's done in a clean way (i.e. if the settings are only overridden temporarily) it can save the user a lot of problems (most users do not have a remote understanding of any of the functionality in the mixer aside from 'volume'). Note also: digital playback will not solve the problem that occurs when another application mutes CD output -- this and bug #172 are different (though related issues). I agree though that this can be lower priority for now. |

Just a small note: digital audio CD playback will solve muted CD output, because the data from CD are extracted directly (regardless any settings) and then go to the output plug-in, therefore there is an equivalence there "mp3 plays"="audio CD plays". |
