Summary | 0018301: Create short videos to explain to users how to use MediaMonkey 5
Description | As discussed on IM, many users would benefit from video tutorials explaining how to use and navigate the UI of MediaMonkey 5, especially for users used to MM 3/4. We can make a YouTube channel dedicated to these tutorials, and it can help save time for the support team by allowing them to simply link a video instead of providing lengthy explanations. We first need a list of topics, especially related to the differences from MM4 to MM5.

First few topics by Ludek in IM: 1) switching view (List > List (by Album) > Grid) 2) where is the 'All' node sub to the folders -- that is replaced with the 'Display folders recursively' toolbar button 3) How to navigate using the tree (incl. "show all subnodes") |
|
1) including switching playing node views: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=100058 4) New search capabilities like 'funel' filtering and contextual search (Scroll to match / Filter matches) 5) How to set up device sync/profile (under Devices & Services in MM5) 6) Pinned list feature 7) Casting + how to set up transcoding for casting 8) Auto-tagging + possibly further items from "What's new in MM5" : https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHelp:What%27s_New/5.0 |
|
4a) breadcrumb usage and quick search 5a) Setting up services 5b) WiFi Sync setup and common issues 9) Backup and restoring backups 10) Locate moved/missing and drive relocation 11) Auto Tag usage and benefits 12) Find More from Same usage 13) Auto-Playlists usage 14) Auto-DJ |

It would probably be useful to think about how this content would integrate into the online help (and consequently structure it in a manner that's consistent with the online help) , while ensuring that each video is no longer than 5m e.g. A) Intro to MediaMonkey - Concept of the Library vs files not in the library -- Adding files to the library - Panels (left (tree) / right (playing) / main (media content) - Open/close panels - Intro to views / switching - Intro to tabs ... B) Navigating media with MediaMonkey (as applied to a single Collection) - Collections (concept of Music vs Classical vs Entire library). Customizing Collections can be treated in another video - Navigation by attributes (tree) - Search (contextual / global) - FMFS (context / Playing window) - Location vs Folders - Playlists - Playing - View switching as it applies to each of the nodes above C) MediaMonkey Navigation (advanced) - Collections customization - Tree customization - Search modes/customization - Playing window customization ... The above is just an example of the first few videos that I think are required, but as you can see they more or less mirror the online help content, so that users not interested in reading through online help can just play the video associated with a particular section. Most of the suggestions raised in earlier posts can similarly be slotted into the framework of the online help. |

Too much, too fast IMO. I think what is urgently required is just one Quick Start document, with video, which simply demonstrates somebody successfully navigating their collection in MM5, without the use of the following things have changed in MM5 * no Media Tree sub-nodes * no All leaf in the Media Tree * no power scroll in the Media Tree So demonstrate navigation using: * breadcrumbs * switching Views * the Recursive button * a contextual search * the Column Browser * the 4 separate click actions in Browser View * while doing that visit the new Artist and Album detail pages, so that some of the new MM5 Internet resources are seen * finally: *** show|hide the Media Tree using the toolbar *** turn Media Tree sub-nodes back on Provide links into the online documentation .. avoid any how to, because you are going to bogged down, and lose people, very very quickly nb: a couple of months ago I sent Rusty a six page critique of the existing MM help resources, with suggestions. In that report was a list of the challenges faced by a migrating MM4 customer. The list is too long to quote here. You could ask Rusty for a copy. After making the above Migration resource, do a similar Quick Start document for new users, show ease of use, and overview of the sexy deliverables, e.g.: * scan in a couple albums * see tags that come in from MusicBrainz * use Find More From Same * make an auto-playlist * see lyrics * Contextual search and column browser * sync a playlist and some content to MMA and or somewhere like Dropbox * those kind of things Once those two things were done, I would monitor feedback, and then go back and completely remake those two videos with whatever is learnt. Only then, think about the wider picture, IMO |
