Summary | 0018905: Play shuffled command appears when it shouldn't / doesn't shuffle by the displayed Attribute
Description | Currently, Play Shuffled appears in views that display tracks (as expected), and usually doesn't appear in views that display e.g. Artists, Composers, etc., however, it does appear in others such as Albums, Years. This is both inconsistent, and yields unexpected results (e.g. tracks are shuffled rather than Albums). Instead we should decide on one of the following approaches: 1) When MMA is in a view that displays Attributes other than tracks, always display the Shuffle icon, but shuffle by the attribute. e.g. in Music > Genres > Alternative > Albums, it should shuffle play Albums e.g. Alternative Tracks from Album1 Alternative Tracks from Album2 ... 2) Only display the Play Shuffled icon in views that display tracks.

Can you clarify option 1) If a user has 3 albums each has several tracks, how do you suggest shuffling it? Are you suggesting that all tracks from albums should be shuffled, but stay together by album? like track 3 from album 2 track 1 from album 2 track 2 from album 2 track 2 from album 3 track 1 from album 3 track 3 from album 3 track 2 from album 1 track 1 from album 1 track 3 from album 1 Or is that not what you meant? |

Dynamically shuffling by the attribute associated with the current view is probably not the best idea. i.e. - Shuffling by albums is something that users often want, but shuffling by Year or Genre probably isn't that useful - Shuffling by albums by default in Album views might not be expected. A better approach would be to first implement album shuffle and then at a later date see if there's a need to make it a default action. Note: Album Shuffle means randomly playing complete albums (with tracks from each album playing in the order in which they appear on the album). If we agree on the above, we should close this issue and create a new one for Album Shuffle (which would appear as an option in views that display albums. Note: I've set the target for 2.0 just so that we can finalize the decision now. |
