Summary | 0019024: Not an easy way to create sub-folder on a pinned folder
Description | When a folder is pinned then there isn't an easy way to create subfolder within that folder. Workaround is right-clicking empty area in the 'Tree (folders)' element ( ~ 67844 ), but this is not intuitive. Better would be to add 'New folder' to the context menu of the pinned folder item.

The workaround does not work with a large music collection. Note copied from ticket 0018985: Ludek: Re: Folder creation: I meant right-clicking to the empty area of the Tree (folders) , see image. Yes, we are talking about the same area. What I am saying is that I see the menu, but it does not allow creation of a top level folder. I use right click to open the context menu, and that selects a folder, when I use the New Folder option it creates the folder inside the folder that I am trying not to select. You say to use an "empty area", but there is no empty area when you have a large top level folder, ie my Music share has 902 artist folders. There is no empty area, even at the top or bottom of that list, and I would need a twenty foot high screen to be able to expand the MM5 panel enough to create some empty space. |

If I understand correctly, the issue applies to more than just pinned items--the ability to create a folder within the current folder is always problematic and the only way to effectively do so currently is by creating a 'New folder' from within the tree. e.g. - In Folder > Folder 2 [Grid|Grid(folders)] : it's possible to right-click Subfolder 3 (of Folder 2) and create a subfolder of Subfolder 3, but it's not possible to right click in the empty space and create a subfolder of 'Folder 2' - Similarly in Folder > Folder 2 [List|List (folders)] : right-clicking in any empty space causes the folder to become selected causing behavior similar to the above i.e. it's only possible to create a child of a selected folder (and not a child within the current folder) i.e. I don't know if the solution is to add a 'New folder' context menu to the pinned item, but rather to fix the root issues described above. |

It is effectively related to pinned items. If you navigate to the Shares root folder via the Media tree, you can right click the share in the Media Tree, and create the folder OK. If you navigate via the bread crump menu: (ie. Home>Folders>MicrosoftWindowsNetwork>WorkGroup>NetworkDrive), you can right click the Share in the main panel, and create the new folder OK But if you Pin the Share, and navigate using bread crumb menu (eg. Home>PinnedShare). you never get access to the share in the main panel, and therefore have no access to the Create New Folder menu at that level. Putting a node for the Share inside the Tree (Folders) View Element would work OK. But adding the "New Folder" menu item to the Pin itself would also work, although it is somewhat less discoverable. ..,. But it may be OK. |
