Summary | 0001911: Tree nodes selection causes tree to scroll horizontally
Description | I believe that this is a regression, though I'm not sure when it was introduced. In any tree in MM, if the user uses the down arrow to cycle through the nodes in the tree, then as soon as focus goes through a node that has text that extends beyond the width of the tree, the tree scrolls horizontally to the right and stays there. Note: I've noticed this in the main tree and also in the Scan folders tree. Could it be a global setting?

After further examination: -I did notice this in another tree, but I can't remember which one (it's not the Scan Folders tree--it functions in the manner that Explorer and other trees do). -In comparison to several other apps the behaviour in the main Window's tree is worse. I tried WMP, Outlook, and DreamWeaver, all of which have a UI similar to MM in the sense that there are Folder nodes without child folders in a panel to the right of the tree. In all cases, the behaviour is similar to that of Explorer, and more desirable because when a node that is too wide appears, the user can at least see the most important part of the node (i.e. the left hand side of it). In MM, however, if the user browses by a node that is too wide, the tree moves in such a manner that the user can only see the middle of the text--i.e. they cannot see the most important part--the beginning of the node's name! If you think that this behaviour really is desirable, then at the very least, the behaviour should be modified so that the horizontal movement of the tree is limited so that the selected node is left justified (and not moved beyond the left border of the panel which causes it to become obscured). |

Fixed in build 859. - As discussed over IM, fixed by disabling automatic scrolling. - I also found out that Shift+Right doesn't work well in trees and can even cause AV. Fixed. |
