Summary | 0019556: Auto-tag: error messages are too technical and untranslated
Description | The Metadata lookup errors: undefined / invalid mbid. don't really mean anything to users--it just tells them that the lookup failed but without clarity as to why (especially since the errors seem to occur in a non-deterministic fashion). Also, as far as I can see, they're not currently translated. Would it make sense to fix this with something like: Error: Metadata lookup (<source>) - Fail: <track name> OR Error: Metadata lookup (<source>) - Cannot create connection. ('Cannot connect' would be better, but this is the only string we have atm--we can change it in the future). All of the above strings are already translated and since 'undefined' and 'invalid mbid.' don't mean anything to the user, I'm not sure there's any sense in communicating that. Is any information being lost in this proposed change? Is there anything else we should communicate? The messages are still kind of vague and it's unclear what the path to resolution is. e.g. if they're transient errors, perhaps append 'Try again later.' (although atm the only available string is 'Please try again') ?

Fixed. Changed message to Error: Metadata lookup (<track title or path> Fail: <message from MB server>) |
|
Per discussion, based on the fact that the messages from the MB server aren't user-friendly, it should be changed to: Metadata lookup (<title> or <filename>) - Fail! Error code: <MB message> |
