Summary | 0019944: Android Auto: Can't resume playback (Playing queue doesn't display)
Description | Numerous users have indicated that Android Auto will often start and is unable to find any content in the MMA playing queue resulting in the Player showing the last played track with a play button doesn't display (instead there's a MediaMonkey Play button but it isn't associated with any content and thus does nothing). To work around this, the user has to either: - initiate playback via their device - initiate playback by browsing the MediaMonkey library in Android Auto This is similar to the issue reported for 'Driving mode' at 0019310

Note: the user at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103646 confirmed that setting MMA Options > Playback > Limit list size for external apps : 0 has no impact. |
A possible variant of this issue is described at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=104046 In this case, Android Auto does resume playbock, but fails to display the artwork associated with the playing track if another app has been used since MediaMonkey was last used (I suspect it's related because using another app causes the notifications player to switch to something other than MediaMonkey, and I suspect that the state of the notifications player is related to whether Android Auto can resume playback or not). Log ID YA575AD9CC |
The original issue is fixed in build 2.0.01076. Another cause is a problem with the artwork, which I'll fix later. EDIT by Rusty: presumably the artwork issue refers to the report at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=104046 |

Resolving since the original issue is fixed. Tracking the remaining item at 0019962 |

It seems that the inability to resume playback is fixed for many cases, but not all. The thread at https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103646 has at least one user experiencing the problem with 1076: Galaxy S10e, Android 12, last update MMA beta build 1076 Head unit Pioneer DMH-1770NEX with most recent firmware Log ID: ATPVVIW3QC Description: Unable to resume play on Android auto |
User at ticket 5795 is also experiencing Android Auto instability / failure to respond with build 1076 (Prius / Pixel 6 Pro). Debug logs have been uploaded to the ticket. |
Log ID: ATPVVIW3QC - It probably failed due to a locked database. Not sure whether playback can be initialized from the app in this case, or the app must be restarted. What caused it is not clear from the log, nor do other logs come from this device. However, this is not a common situation and I assume that the ongoing crash fixes and ANR will prevent such cases. Fixed in build 2.0.0.1078 |
Works for me on build 1078/1079. Leaving 'resolved' pending user confirmation. |
The user at ticket 5795 confirmed that the issue is resolved. |
Reopening as the issue isn't resolved for some users with build 1079: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=509458#p509458 Debug log: CSLPPFQFFS The user had previously indicated: "When I bring up MMA on AA, now it will show a spinning orange ring animation in the middle of the screen. I can still navigate to artists, albums, etc but can't resume playback of what was playing before. It will still show "preparing playback service" notification on my phone when this happens. After starting playback on my phone, MMA on AA will work as usual. " |
Tested with my Android Auto and his database. Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce it. It seems to me that perhaps the user's AA device is less powerful. The loading progress bar flashes occasionally, but everything always loads correctly on my side. Same behavior with other apps. Until we figure out how to reproduce it, I'm reducing the priority. For the next build(1080), I fixed the color of the root icons. |
Re-resolving since the fix in build 1078 fixed the issue. The remaining issue is distinct and only occurs on certain devices/environments and is being tracked independently at 0020017. |

As 0020017 is already closed I retested it in 1098, Verified closing. |
