| Description | One of the usecases for which I'd like to use the Virtual CD is to prepare CD images for burning. This is especially true when the user stores audio files in formats other than those which he would like to burn (e.g. my DVD drive only reads MP3, and my music collection is a mix of CDs, MP3, and OGG files). Currently, however, when the user attempts to copy songs from the HD to the virtual CD, several issues arise: 1) A warning is given 'The song xxx is located on non-removable media. Are you sure you want to cache it?'. I don't believe that this warning is necessary--especially since caching is non-destructive. 2) If the user tries to copy formats other than CD-Audio, the files do not convert to the format specified in the virtual cd configuration screen (e.g. if I've configured the virtual cd to rip to .mp3, my .ogg files will be copied to the virtual CD directory, but they won't be converted). To resolve the second issue, I would suggest: 1) Preferred solution: -Allow virtual cd format to be set when save to virtual cd is run. Pop up a dialog with the Virtual CD configuration options. Add an option to the screen that allows the user to set which formats are converted. e.g. Convert the following file formats to: [MP3] (drop down) [x] CD Audio [ ] MP3 [ ] OGG [ ] etc... | ||||

It is interesting, I am not sure if too useful, but maybe yes. Maybe even something more general would help (like MP3s with bitrate>128 => Convert to bitrate 96). Currently I would create CDs using ordinary Copy or Convert commands to some temporary folder, however your proposal seems to be useful too. |

The nice thing about using Virtual CD for this is the fact that the user has the Virtual CD Queue--this makes it easy to build the contents of the Virtual CD, and then generate the CD and burn it at once. It would, however, require that the user have a means of manually definining individual Virtual CDs i.e. today, files are simply added to Virtual CD Root or Virtual CD Queue Root--there would be a need to allow the user to Create/Rename/Add-to Virtualcd1, Virtualcd2, Virtualcdqueue1, Virtualcdqueue2, etc. The virtual cd root and virtual cd queue root would simply contain the contents of all subnodes. I think that this is actually a _good_thing_ since virtual cds _are_ actually represented in this manner in the /Library/Locations/CD nodes, but not in the virtual CD node. |

This issue is no longer relevant due to: a) auto-convert for CD burning b) bug speccing auto-convert for VCD. |
