Summary | 0002145: Auto-Tag from Amazon: occasional lockups when IE scripts are disabled
Description | FROM: Paul Laufer <paul@tsage.com> Sent to support@mediamonkey and also posted to Bug Reports forum. Description: Occasional lockup when visiting "Auto-Tag from Amazon." Versions: MediaMonkey 2.5.1.901 Windows 5.1.2600 IE: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 CPU Dual XEON 2.40GHz Preface: I have changed the security settings in my IE "Internet Zone" to prompt me when a web page tries to run active-x, Java, scripting, etc.... I have also placed *.amazon.com in my "Trusted" zone. Steps: Highlight song, right click and choose Auto-Tag from Amazon. Internet Explorer small modal dialog box says "Scripts are usually safe. Do you want to allow scripts to run?" Respond yes or no, it doesn't matter. Result: Small IE dialog window goes blank but stays on the screen in modal form, over MM. MM screen (which is visible behind the IE screen) is the Auto-Tag screen, with no data visible. All fields are blank. Windows reports that IE is not responding. After 5-10 seconds I can close the modal IE dialog box, though only by the X in the upper right corner because the buttons and dialog disappear as soon as I clicked on yes or no. Closing the IE dialog box also closes MM, though it leaves the SysTray icon visible until I hover the mouse over the SysTray. Discussion: This has happened to me from the very first time I used MM, which was about 8-10 months ago, through each update/beta/alpha. I would say that it happens about once every ten times I try to "Auto-Tag from Amazon." Since the IE dialog box is modal, you can't get back to MM without closing the IE dialog, and when you close the IE dialog it closes MM. Note again that I have placed *.amazon.com in IE's trusted zone, which means that if MM is attempting to retrieve data only from the amazon.com domain, it shouldn't elicit this IE dialog box at all. But there is a problem with that, in that when I browse to www.amazon.com with IE I still get the IE scripting dialog because amazon.com has lots of ads and redirects that point away from the amazon.com domain. Anyway, that's it in a very large nutshell. Let me know if I can perform any followup to assist locating the issue. I'm not particularly excited about changing my IE security settings to test the problem, but I will if you'd like to work on something specific. I've downloaded the debug version this morning and run it through its paces, and can't get it to misbehave after Auto-Tagging about 30 times. :) But earlier today it happened to me running the normal version.
Additional Information | 2 debug logs are posted to the ftp server I tried many times to replicate this but cannot. I'm entering the bug in the hopes that the debug logs will shed light on this.
