Summary0002273: Replay Gain values off?
DescriptionI'm not sure if this is a bug or not:

I was trying to see if there's any problem based on http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6948

and was testing by Leveling track volume and then verifying whether the levels match those in the MP3 gain application.

It seems though that even though MM says that a track is leveled to 83db, in MP3Gain, the analysis shows that it's at 89db.

Any idea whether this is a bug or not?

Fixed in build 926.
 - As discussed over IM, due to a bug in RG calculation (or rather a non-standard 89dB used instead of 83dB), we had to change internal calculations in MM accordingly.

Re-opening to ask a couple more questions before I test:

1) I know that the old implementation Leveled to incorrect values. Does that also imply that the Soundcheck values that it created were incorrect? (or is Soundcheck relative like Replay Gain and the coefficients are therefore still valid?).

2) The last comments at http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6948 doesn't make sense to me. i.e. if the user 'Levels Track Volume' (in beta 4) and then attempts playback with Level Playback Volume enabled, or Level Playback Volume disabled, shouldn't the volume be the same?

1) No, SoundCheck was correct, it was based on relative values.

2) Yes, the result should always be the same (since the relative adjustment is ~0 then).

This seems to be working properly except that:
-83db will be perceived as too low by most users (almost every single track in my collection is adjusted downwards at this setting)
-83db results in volume levels inconsistent with those done in the past for 'Level Volume'

I would therefore suggest that we change the default values to 89db. Granted this isn't exactly in line with the spec, however, 83db is just too low, and besides other apps + Vorbisgain use 89db as a default.
