Summary | 0002753: Album Art Management for device synchronization
Description | When tracks are synched, users should be given control regarding how the art is transferred to the device to ensure that it is viewable on the device. The following was originally proposed in bug 0002485: [x] Remove album art from tags, if bigger than ___ kB [ ] Move linked album art to tags [ ] Place album art in track's folder on device There are several issues that I want to discuss before speccing further: 1) This proposal implies that the user knows how his/her device works. Can we implement this in a manner that only presents iPod users with relevant options (same goes for Plays for Sure devices)? 2) Should we limit only a single album art image per track? 3) Should we try to use a common UI for configuring default album art locations 0001633, album art locations for burned CDs 0002099, and this?

Notes re. individual options: [x] Remove album art from tags, if bigger than _300_ kB - This should proceed all images in track's tag and remove only those large than specified number of bytes. [ ] Move linked album art to tags - This should, in addition to images already in tags, add any linked album art to tags [ ] Place album art in track's folder on device as _folder.jpg__ - This should copy to the specified location the first album art of track (be it in tag or a linked image). Technical note: The first two features modify tracks and this has to be done on PC, to a temporary file that's only then copied to device. Re. reaised questions: 1) I think that these options are useful almost for any device. I think that even iPod user can benefit from them (depending on how iPod is used, e.g. if it's used also on another machine, etc.). That said, we can try to preconfigure the values for some devices. 2) I think I explained my ideas in comments above. 3) I'd say that this has to be specifically for device, somewhere on Device Config dialog (probably its own sheet?). |

Some slight rewording/reordering. Note also, that I would include these options on the device config panel described in 0002164 (that bug resolves a similar UI issue in which synch location is configured on a tab that can conflict with device settings): [ ] Save all album art to track folders _folder.jpg________________________ [>>] [ ] Save all album art to track tags [ ] Remove images from tags if larger than: _300_ KB Final note: I think that we should change bug 0002099 so that it has a UI consistent with this implementation. |

Assigning to Ludek to implement as described. |
