Summary | 0003056: Search for 'Available' tracks doesn't work for network-based tracks
Description | If the user searches for Status=Available and is offline, MM still includes all tracks that are on the network in the search results. This issue applies both to searches/autoplaylists and to the dead links node in Files to Edit.

Re. searches/autoplaylists - Problem is that it isn't clear how to fix this - in case of medias MM can easily tell that it is/isn't inserted, but for network resources their availability can't be checked, at least not in guaranteed reasonable time. Re. Files to Edit/Dead links - I guess that you mean that tracks are shown there, even though they actually do exist, just the netowrk connection doesn't work? If so, then they really shouldn't appear in the node and some kind of network availability would be needed... |

Perhaps the solution is that users should be able to mark certain resources as 'offline'. That way such issues can be completely avoided. (it's kind of similar to how email clients offer offline modes to avoid checking unecessarily for unavailable servers). Possible approaches are to tag devices / networks as 'offline'. |

I'm afraid that this would be a little hard to configure (i.e. switch between on/off modes for each type of network connection), not mentinoning technical difficulties. What I would suggest instead is to add a global 'offline' mode, i.e. something as you suggested, but with a global meaning - for all network connections. I believe that it would solve most of problems. Question is where to add this configuration, so that it's easily accessible, but not too much visible, since many users won't need it at all. |
|
File > Use Offline The entry should appear just above 'Exit'. When user goes into offline mode a) any qeries for 'available tracks' wouldn't return the networked tracks b) tracks on the network should be grey c) if the user tries to play them or perform an operation on them, MM would 'know' to skip them since they're offline, and would therefore perform the operation very quickly. |
