Summary | 0003467: m4a files with 59+ character or unicode filenames/folders cannot be played in MM
Description | As pointed out in bug 1448, the root of this problem is that Quicktime can't play tracks with > 59 characters in the filename. We're receiving bug reports re. AAC playback problems related to this issue--it seems that many users do have filenames > 59 characters long. Note that iTunes does not suffer from this limitation--I'm hoping that there's a way for MM to resolve this as well.
Additional Information | Sample tracks are on the ftp server under bug 1448 (by Vivaldi)

Raising priority. This will cause too many support issues. |
Btw, according to this document from Apple http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2005/qa1413.html , this is a known problem and it also causes problem with Unicode filenames. |
A related problem is that tracks stored to a network location cannot be played by Quicktime. The solution of copying the track locally first would probably solve both problems. Also, Unicode is a problem for playback whether it is in the filename or the folder. |
Fixed in build 1099. - It should be fully fixed now, using a trick all tracks should play fine now. |
Verified 1103 :) |
As reported in forum, this still doesn't work well with some Unicode filenames. |
Fixed in build 1106. - There was yet a small glitch in the code. |
Verified 1108 (hebrew m4a files). |
