Summary | 0004130: Lyrics often don't display on the iPod
Description | I'm not sure why this is the case, but often tracks with lyrics sync to the iPod, but although the iPod recognizes that lyrics are contained within the track, the iPod doesn't display them. The problem seems to be inconsistent (i.e. it doesn't always occur with the same tracks). posting several tracks with lyrics to the ftp server. Chiquita seems more prone to exhibit this problem.

This is apparently a problem with iPod firmware, it fails with some ID3v2 tags, as reported e.g. at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5589181 (note that the mentioned conversion from v2.4 to v2.3 doesn't seem to be the real fix, the non-working Chiquita also was v2.3). I was able to fix the problem with this track by cleaning ID3 tags from the track, updating them again and re-syncing to iPod. |
Tested 1118. This still seems to fail with tracks that are auto-converted (tested with OGG tracks). |
Fixed in build 1119. - Autoconversion really stripped lyrics from tracks. |
It's now working perfectly on the iPod Nano 3G, however, it almost never works on iPod Nano 2G (on the iPod's lyrics panel, it shows the Track title, but in almost all cases, no lyrics--whether the track is auto-converted or not). |
As discussed over IM, it's a problem of iPod's firmware, the same occurs after syncing with iTunes. Assigning to Rusty to write something about it to forum and/or faq. |
Closing--the issue is an iPod firmware issue--it only shows the Lyrics from the tag after it has processed the Album Art. |
There is a bug in MM that can cause this problem: when synchronization is set to add or remove album art from tags, lyrics can be lost from tags, which is the root of the problem in iPod. |
Fixed in build 1177. |
I found out how it can happen even without the mentioned options. |

Verified 1177. Track that consistently failed to sync lyrics in the past now works. |

One more problem reported by users in http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=151015#151015. |
