Summary | 0004178: Properties Dialog: Edit boxes don't function correctly when text is wider than the text box width
Description | If the text inside a Properties dialog text box is wider than the available space then as soon as the user clicks in the text box, the text shifts to the right so that the last character is displayed. This is kind of nasty because: a) it's unexpected b) it causes the cursor to change position, e.g. if the user clicked between the 'T' and 'h' in 'Thhe Moment.........the stars' (the ... represents 200 characters) then the text would shift all the way to the right, and the cursor would move to some point in the ... text!! The user then has to manually reposition the cursor to the correct location. This is a nasty bug when it occurs, but I suspect it won't occur often. If it's trivial/low risk to fix, we should, otherwise we'll push.

Deferring since it's unclear what the best approach is, and it would be better to experiment with our users for 3.1: WMP: Shows text that's too wide in a right-justified manner so that when the user clicks it, there's no change in focus. Winamp: Shows the text left-justified, but the user may not realize if the text extends beyond the right margin. I prefer the Winamp approach, but this can wait. |

I've changed it in way how WinAmp works (left justified). |
