Summary | 0004294: Issues with Large / Extra Large fonts
Description | The first one is really picky but if I choose Large or Extra Large fonts, when I click items in the Library pane (artist, album, playlist, or whatever) the grey highlight isn't wide enough to highlight the full text of that item. My Windows, Display Settings, Advanced has the DPI at 125% (for large size). This setting has confused some other programs. The second problem is that Extra Large fonts make MM unusable. The text in the menus overlap so bad you can't see anything. Many other items have issues as well.

This issue was already fixed when font size change is applied after MM restart. |
There are still various issues with 120 DPI - mainly text in many dialogs is cut off. |
As discussed over IM, we should internally increase DPI for Large font selection and thus make enough place for everything. |

After some feedback we'll update it a little. Some users doesn't like the way where Normal font size will depend on system DPI. We'll add an option to change size of the fonts by % (depend on system DPI) or by pixels. In Options dialog change Font size Combo box to : Font size : [% , Size (11-22)] [(-50%, -25%, Normal, +25%, +50%, Choose (-100 - +100), ______] |
Will be in 1223 |

It seems to me to be unnecessarily complicated at this moment, there are currently 3 controls to set what is pretty much a single value. I'd suggest to only have one dropdown with editable content there, where values would be: -50% -25% Normal +25% {note that we currently don't show the '+' sign, which should be there} +50% User would be able to also enter arbitrary value to the dropdown, in case of an invalid input it would default to 'Normal'. Assigning to Rusty for a review, assign to Petr if you agree. |

Per discussion with Petr, some users might need fixed size settings (i.e. not based on % of default Windows DPI). In order to support and still need just one control (which I think is highly preferrable), the values of the dropdown could be changed to: -50% -25% [Normal] +25% {note that we currently don't show the '+' sign, which should be there} +50% =11 pixels =13 pixels =15 pixels =20 pixels Since user could edit the control text, any value would be possible: a. Any number A would be interpreted as A%. b. Any number B preceded by '=' would be interpreted as '=B pixels'. (Note that both a. and b. seem to be pretty clear from the default dropdown values and so don't need specific help). One more suggestion: There should be a sample text below this control showing the actual size of text based on the selected settings, so that user doesn't see the result only after MM restart. We should decide what would be shown in such a sample text, also in context of the need to change PO files. |
Making the values editable directly within the control is definitely a good idea. I would suggest, though, that it is clearer to have a dropdown to choose '%' vs 'Pixels' instead of using '='. That's fairly common and shouldn't be confusing to users. e.g. Font size _[(%), (pixels)]^_: ______^ |
Just small change as discussed off-line: Font size: ______^ _[%, px]^_ |

UI updated in 1223. |

Note re. context help: 11px is default font size for standard 96 DPI accepted range is 11-22px (96 to 0000083:0000144 DPI) |
Based on forum feedback i've changed range to 8-22 (instead of 11-22). |
