Summary | 0004963: Allow for easier switching between multiple libraries | ||||
Description | 'Collections' should probably appear in the tree (rather than require a right-click in order to see that they exist). e.g. Library (AudioBooks) should be a top level node in the tree that is collapsed. In addition, we've discussed in bug 0002570 that library contents should appear e.g. when 'Library' or 'Library (Podcasts)' is selected. e.g. Current Selection Entire Library Library (Audiobooks) Library (Classical) ... After thinking about this a bit more (see bug 0005092), I'm no longer certain that having multiple trees is the best approach. What might be better is to just have a dropdown on the menu bar that allows the user to select the active 'collection'. e.g. Filter order is: 1) Filters/Collections: Select Filter via dropdown (one of the options being 'None') 2) Node / Search Entire Library: These are equivalent in filter order since each overrides the other. The way this should work is that it should always search the active filter only--there's no need to choose 'Search Entire Library' or 'Search Active Filter' since the user configures this in the dropdown to the left described in (1). 3) Track browser column 1 4) Track browser column 2 5) Track browser column 3 6) Search Selected--this would require another searchbar (kind of like firefox's find bar). The remaining questions are: 1) how to best integrate this with Videos (and perhaps Podcasts as well)--i.e. should 'collections' for those appear directly in the dropdown? Or should there be a completely different switch & 'mode' for video (e.g. without a 'rip', 'burn' button?) 2) Should the Navigation bar / Tree be integrated with this idea? e.g. if the Tree/Navigation bar are set to 'Library (classical)', should it be possible to set the Collection dropdown to something other than 'Library Classical'? Probably not. Which might mean that perhaps this dropdown should _replace_ the leftmost portion of the Navigation bar. But that can only happen if we figure out an alternate way to represent top level nodes that aren't sub to Library (e.g. Playlists, Podcast Subscriptions, Search Results, My Computer, Devices, Net Radio, Web) since those shouldn't appear within a 'Collections' dropdown. Perhaps the answer is that all of those should appear within other tabs--rather than as nodes in the tree. Leaving open for discussion. |
