Summary | 0005213: Podcast Destination option is unclear about trailing backslash use/disuse
Description | User reports that podcast destination does not adequetely identify to the user whether the destination should be a folder, or a folder & filename/file mask option. Clicking the add folder button correctly adds the trailing backslash to indicate a folder path, but if the user types in a folder path without the trailing backslash then it is assumed to be a filename. There might also should be a check to ensure that a root folder is not being utilized, to prevent problems with system files (ie user specifies "C:\Podcasts" as the destination.

I think there is no need to fix required, because this is rather user error. Re: "Trailing backslash indicates a folder path, but if the user types in a folder path without the trailing backslash then it is assumed to be a filename." Yes, this is intended otherwise e.g. path: C:\Podcasts\<Album>\episode would not work. No need to add a trailing backslash to such a path, because user probably wants to download episodes like this: i.e. C:\Podcasts\Helth Update\episode.mp3 C:\Podcasts\Helth Update\episode(1).mp3 C:\Podcasts\Helth Update\episode(2).mp3 C:\Podcasts\Helth Update\episode(3).mp3 |

there is some user discussion at the linked thread to indicate it is a source of confusion, and perhaps might lead to unpredictable behavior when set to a root directory. (ie if option to delete episodes could lead to other system/media files being deleted where not on a podcast list) |

I think it would be a good idea in general to allow for the use of the mask configuration wizard in all MM portions of the UI where it's not presently enabled. That would hopefully eliminate the confusion arising from such issues. I'll create a separate bug for that. As far as a bug relating to the fact that unpredictable behavior occurs when the podcast directory is set to C:/Podcast, I couldn't replicate that issue--I'll raise this in the forum. |
