Summary | 0008073: DLNA: How to Accept external IP addresses
Description | The 'Accept External IP addresses' function doesn't seem to work OR we need to better document how to make it work. When I check that box, and then configure a DLNA client to connect to <machineIP>:<port>, nothing happens, even with Port Forwarding enabled. It seems though that the client I'm testing with expects to find an html server serving an xml file. Can you clarify how this could be make to work (either manually via port forwarding or automatically via IGDP)?

I haven't tested myself, but I guess you need to have public IP so that you could access http://IP:PORT/DeviceDescription.xml - is this XML accessible for you? I saw in WMP 12 that you need to have their Online ID for security reasons. But I guess that if you enable the UPnP ports in firewalls and if you are able to access the http://IP:PORT/DeviceDescription.xml then it should be just about finding a client where you can enter this manually. |

Tested this out on the iPhone with Air Player and it works correctly. With PlugPlayer, though, I'm able to get a remote connection to the Server to browse content however: a) the connection is periodically lost b) music can't play Documented at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.php/WebHelp:Setting_UPnP/DLNA_Media_Servers/4.0 |
