Summary | 0008300: MM fails to recognize video files as supported
Description | In build 1423, MM doesn't recognize supported video formats properly. Tested by syncing videos to an iPhone from: http://www.howstuffworks.com/podcasts/stuff-of-genius.rss With auto-conversion disabled, the tracks sync properly, and play on the device. With auto-conversion enabled, the tracks sync but auto-convert unnecessarily! Another user reported a similar problem with Android devices (except in that case, with auto-conversion disabled, MM wouldn't sync the tracks): http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=60014

What version of iPhone? Versions prior iPhone4 should support only Baseline profile of AVC/H264 (from specification) and these files have Main profile set (see MediaInfo). I debugged it and Main profile is correctly recognized. |
I've made some testing with my iPod Nano4 and video from the link. Specification says, my iPod supports only Baseline profile of H264. Even iTunes does not synchronize it to iPod, because of unsupported format. But, if I add Main profile to supported for this device in MM and then copy the file to iPod, it is playable well. So there are some formats, that are still playable, but are inconsistent with Apple official specification. Hard to say which, because it is not guaranteed, that they will be playable. |

Rusty, please let me know, is it that you have iPhone version <4, but having FW 4.x? |
It's a 3GS FW 4.3.3 |
Fixed in build 1425. - Note that it changes device default config, so in order to change settings of an existing device in MM, it's necessary to Restore Defaults, or delete the device, or manually check Main Profile in MP4 format configuration. |
