This was by design. i.e. commands are only displayed in the relevant contexts so that the main toolbar is not full of irrelevant commands.

This change should be reverted. The issue that Lowlander raised can be fixed by making the RIP CD/FreeDB lookup commands available via My Computer > CD node's:
a) context menu
b) main menu bar

Looking into this a bit further, this needs a bit more explanation...

Sometime between build 1390 and 1400, the Rip CD command was added back to the main toolbar. I can't find an entry for this in mantis, but this particular command was specced for removal in 0002701 because it's not relevant except in cases where a CD has been inserted, so I'm not sure why it was added back.

It's not needed because in cases where a CD has been inserted:
- The CD appears as a persistent node in the tree (i.e. it always shows up even when the tree is full)
- The Rip command appears next to the CD node
- The Rip command should appear when the CD node is selected

All that to say, the root of the problem reported by LL is the fact that the 'Rip CD' command shouldn't appear in the main toolbar, except for when:
a) The CD node is selected
b) Location > CD node is selected
c) My Computer > CD node is selected

Several users are having problems ripping CD's as the command is only enabled under Tools when the CD node is selected.

Yes, this seems to be true and I believe that the Rip command under Tools should be enabled even if no CD is selected (as in MediaMonkey 3). MM then searches the CD drives for the inserted CD and shows the rip dialog if an audio CD is inserted. Otherwise the "No audio CD was found..." dialog appears.

Rusty, please confirm.

EDITED: The other thing I found is that the Tools->Rip CD command is enabled when Now Playing window is focused (even if no CD node was selected). Not sure why?

Re. enabling the command in Tools, OK.

Re. NP window, if we're enabling Rip regardless of what Tracks/Nodes are selected, then I suppose it should be enabled even if NP is selected.

Rip Audio CD is always enabled even when CD not inserted (not a bad thing as it will state that no Audio CD was found when used), but FreeDB lookup is only available when the CD node is selected in 1460.
