Summary | 0008656: Device Summary space indicator is incorrect in some cases
Description | When the sync list includes tracks that are to be autoconverted, the indicator re. the amount of audio on the device: a) includes the content of the auto-sync list b) includes it based on uncompressed size (despite the fact that the To Sync indicator is based on an estimate of the auto-converted size) e.g. for a 128MB device, that has e.g. 15MB of music on it, and an autosync list of 984MB flac files that will be auto-converted to MP3: -To sync: shows 15MB -Audio (on device): shows ~1000MB I can understand why we might have implemented a) (though it is a bit confusing), but b) doesn't make any sense.

Rusty, I believe that b) must be a test error. Are you sure that you set compatible formats in the Options->Auto-conversion ? I tested with an empty device and checked one playlist including FLAC files. If I set compatible formats to just MP3 and checked the corresponding auto-convert rule then the size of 'To Sync:' and 'Audio:' immediatelly changed from 400 MB to 57 MB. And what you mean by "Audio (on device): shows ~1000MB", note that the Audio:, Video:, Other:, Free: shows sum of already synced + to be synced amount as you correctly pointed in a) |
|
I can't replicate the problem. In testing, though, I've found some behaviour that seems strange: When a device is first plugged in, the status indicator shows how much content is on the device. And if the user adds content to the sync list it gets added to the total. BUT if the user sets the Delete Tracks not on the Playlist option, it has no effect on the amount of data that is projected to be on the device. |

The real solution is to improve the indicator to show 'Current Status' vs 'Projected Status'. That would also eliminate the confusion that some experience with the fact that the status indicator appears to show the current status in the summary view, but actually doesn't. |
