Summary | 0008908: Mapped Drive handling regression in MM4 (?)
Description | There have been several reports of failed upgrades to MM4 when users of MM3 have mapped drives. This bug is a placeholder to determine: -whether there is really a bug in MM4 -what the bug is / how to reproduce

Just retested and this is not direct problem of MM4 it was reported by users of MM3 also, but more and more users use NAS and Network storage especially as more and more Wireless routers like http://www.thinkcomputers.org/tp-link-tl-wr1043nd-wireless-n-gigabit-router-review/ have NAS capabilities. It is easy to reproduce. Mapped Drives do not have Serial Number like normal Drives. 1. Create Mapped drive 2. scan some files in MM Library 3. Close MM 4. Disconnect Mapped Drive 5. Start MM 6. Connect Mapped Drive Note: that files are not playable anymore like drive is not connected I can't test on XP but as I remember sometimes you need to remove mapped drive and recreate Mapped Drive to loose ability to play files in MM and see them gray in MM library. Fixing 0005548 Mapped drives would be ignored and this could not happen. Please consult with Jiri with triage. |

Per my e-mail, I'm unclear why upgrading from MM3 to MM4 would have any impact on whether a networked drive works or not. i.e. if MM3 shows the networked content, and the user then installs MM4 and the content is gone, it would seem to be a DB upgrade problem. Unless, are you saying that the problem is that MM completely deletes the content from the mapped drives because the user has enabled Library > Remove unavailable items ? I doubt that since from the reports, it seems that the items still exist--just the links don't work. |

After Direct contact with Users. In all cases it was found that it was user error where either Serial was changed so MM could not logically recognize Mapped Drive (User Fixed it using SQL viewer MM Plugin) or MM.DB was corrupted and needed Maintenance in MM3 before upgrade (Mainly large libraries with more than 75k of tracks like it was the issue on one of mine PCs). There is only one issue where Media Didn't had Serial Number and it worked. Unfortunately as soon as user have made Maintain library and used steps I provided in 0008908:0029645 MM3 also stopped recognizing the drive. |
