Summary | 0009781: Overlaying layout visibility depends on underlaying album artwork
Description | The layout in NP screen that overlays album artwork shouldn't be transparent. This way it is dependent on underlaying content and becomes invisible for some artworks. Please see attached screenshots. I suggest to revert the rating and seekbar background to solid background. And we should move the icons too: - move it down where it was but preserve the current area for swiping - other option - small devices - move it down only for - big devices - move it on the left and right side of seekbar

Rusty, thoughts? I'd rather preserve the transparency there, looks better to me. Maybe we could somehow change borders of the icons so that they are well visible in all cases? |
Re. star ratings: Since there's a transparent background and transparent stars, wouldn't the simplest solution be to ensure that the transparent stars contrast with the transparent background more? Re. repeat/shuffle icons, I would keep them transparent/hidden, but would it make sense for them to be: -activated via a touch to the player controls? -place them immediately above the player as suggested by Marek? |
1) Stars aren't transparent. Background is transparent. And even if we change the background or star color, there will always be tint of artwork that will cause the rating/seek bar invisibility. 2) Sure we can activate them after click. Do you think that there should be two kinds of events? I.e. one for these buttons and one for album art overlaid controls? I think it might be merged to simplify the behaviour for user. I.e. click on player controls or album art triggers to show everything. Similar behaviour uses newest Music app in JB. |
1) This could be resolved by making the border of stars slightly different color, e.g. a thin yellow outline around the gray stars. 2) I wouldn't move them to their original location, since they'd always slightly limit swiping and also shorten the area for text. It might be harder than in 1), but even here I suppose that some outline could solve it. |
Re. contrast/transparency: can't we just take the same approach as shown in the above screencap from JB Music app? You can see that whether the AA is light or dark, the thumbs-up/thumbs-down are always visible. |
I added the semi-transparent background also behind the Shuffle and Repeat buttons, which slightly improves the problem in most cases. To fully resolve it, we could change color of these buttons to white (since no background will be white after applying semi-transparency of the background panel). |
Tested build 43 and I think we need to change it to white, as it's completely invisible on white albums. |

Tested build 47, and it looks good. I would just suggest one change: When mma is in landscape mode (i.e. when rating/repeat/shuffle indicators aren't on a transparent background), they should appear in the grey color as previously. It's a little less jarring. What do you think? |
Agreed. |
Fixed the landscape icons. There's one thing remaining though - the current white stars are quite hard to distinguish from the yellow stars, they are very similar. I'd use the white color for outline of the stars only, the inner part should be either gray or transparent. |
Assigning to Marek to include the provided stars with yellow outline. |
