Summary | 0009877: Initial sync sometimes fails to trigger accept connection dialog on MMW
Description | When I connect an Xperia Pro (configured as a USB MS device) over Wifi, it fails to trigger the 'accept remote connections for this device' dialog. e.g. 1 Click Sync Now --> Search servers dialog appears 2 Click MMW server --> Synchronization dialog appears (with Storage, Uploading, Downloading, Updating...) and MMA just gets stuck on that screen. MM should display an error message and/or stop attempts to sync if it's unable to connect. So the bug for MMA is that it shouldn't get stuck (and should follow the workflow in 8705). The bug for MMW is that the dialog should appear.
Additional Information | Note: when I initiated sync via a Nexus 7 (configured as an MTP device), this worked. It subsequently failed when I initiated the sync for an Xperia Pro (configured as USB MS device).

Rusty, you are true that for existing USB profiles the WiFi connection is accepted despite the fact the [ ] Grant remote access ... checkbox is unchecked (Fixed as 0009875). And question is: I (and Jiri) think that for existing USB profiles the [x] Grant remote access ... checkbox should be checked by default and thus WiFi connection should be automatically accepted until user disables the checkbox, what do you think? Of course that for new profiles created over WiFi (or profiles matched based on Serial Number) we should always ask the user (dialog should be presented). |
|
Ludek, why do you think that? It seems to me that it would needlessly open a user's collection to security issues. Is it because you're concerned that MMW wouldn't be able to match the device to the existing profile? If so, isn't it possible to do that? |
|
Actaully there are two cases: CASE 1: An existing USB profile exists and MMW is 100% sure that remote WiFi device is the device that was peviously connected via USB. I think that [x] Grant remote access ... should be checked by default, because if a user allowed to connect the device to his computer over USB, why he should refuse the same device via WiFi? CASE 2: MMW isn't 100% sure what profile to pair or a new profile is about to be created over WiFi => the dialog is present to confirm such action This issue is about CASE 1. |

Thanks. Seems to make sense. |

Fixed in build 1604. [x] Grant remote sync / access ... is now checked by default |

Note that this is no longer valid, see 0009013:0032873 and 0008926:0032872 |
