Summary | 0009952: Direct Editing Track properties on Device do not work
Description | During regression testing of MMA I have noticed that Some of my compilation Albums are not tagged correctly. So I Connected my phone over USB (MTP), let MM Scan the device, Open device music tree node, selected tracks from affected Album corrected TAGs (eg. Added Correct Album Artist) and pressed OK. No Progress Bar on tagging was visible, MMW UI seams to freeze. After recopying track to PC for Updates check I have Noticed that no Tags are updated. I guess that two approaches could be done: 1. Edit MMA DB directly and add/update track tags (faster as only MMA database will be accessed/changed) 2. Update Tags on device directly and let MMA rescan track tags (safer and more compatible option for devices that do not have MMA) Note: just for testing I can confirm that iOS devices and tracks correctly reflect changes within MMW

Peke, you mean the situation when user plug-in MTP device and try to edit tracks in MM interface under Device->Music node? I think that this has never worked (maybe just file tagging for devices with known drive letter). And thinking about it we should probably disable editing under the device node in MM (same as e.g. WMP disables it) 1. It would be a major work to support this for all kinds of devices (including some hardly solvable problems related to Artwork - 0003139, 0006659 ) 2. It also brings some usability questions, e.g. what should happen if user edits a track via device node, but then edits the same track in MM library and sync. It would mostly results in lost of the first editing. |

Disabled editing under the device node in build 1606. |

Per IM discussion with Rusty. Although we have never implemented it, it worked in 4.0.7 for devices with known drive letter, i.e. USB MASS storage devices and older iPods. In that case MM just edits file tags and the device updates the metadata itself based on tags. Although e.g. artwork editing doesn't work for iPods. Rusty think that we should re-enable the functionality for such a devices. |

Re-enabled for devices with drive letter in build 1610. |
