Summary0011421: Playlists sometimes fail to sync even though content syncs
DescriptionAs reported in the forums, in some cases wifi sync fails to copy a playlist to the device when syncing, even though the content of the playlist is copied. I can't find a pattern to this behavior but can provide debug logs for both MMW and MMA.
Additional InformationMMA Log: K9JXS66IS8
MMW log: on server

In this log, two playlists were on the sync list that didn't appear on the device:
aimee-top-rated : this playlist was added to the sync list and auto sync was performed, after which the tracks appear on the device, but not the playlist
beatles-not-rated : this playlist was added to the auto-sync list after the above operation, and when the wifi sync was performed, neither the tracks nor the playlist were added to the device. The log is for this second operation.

Note: according to ES Explorer and other similar tools, ~15GB remains on the SD card. Is it possible that MMA thinks that insufficient space is available?

Actually, I just figured out the problem. It seems that even though the playlists are selected in MMW, somehow they aren't selected in MMA!!

I've reverified that the correct sync profile is being used, so it seems that somehow, configuration information isn't being transferred correctly in some cases (though that still doesn't explain why the contents of the Aimee-top-rated playlist remain on the device). Similarly, changes made in MMA's auto-sync profile, don't get updated to MMW.

The really strange thing is that it occurs for some device auto-sync profiles, but not for others?! It seems that once a profile gets 'out-of-sync' between MMA and MMW, it can't get back in sync. Afaik, the only solution would be to delete the profile and then resync (though I've not yet tested to see if that works).

I was thinking that perhaps the fix to 0011359 somehow results in profiles failing to keep in sync, but that wouldn't explain why some profiles work and others don't.

I see these 3 playlists on synclist:
 - Favourite - 1 Audio CD Worth (74 min)
 - Jogging
 - testexp1

So it is probably something on MMW side.

Btw. MMA checks free space and it shows it correctly (~17 GB). Minimum is 20 MB.

Strange, in MMW log only those two playlists were served on sync-list:
Favorites - 1 Audio CD Worth (74 min)
Jogging

Are you sure that all the playlists are checked on sync-list in MMW and that the correct storage/profile is configured?

Otherwise I was testing it and thinking about the possible reasons. The sync-list config (what playlists are seleted on sync-list) is stored _only_ within MMW database.
i.e. MMA just reads the content via UPnP and sends the (un)check actions. The only way how they can be out of sync is if there is a network problem and thus MMA has not the actual data.

EDIT: I found one tweak related to this, if MMA remains on a config page (e.g. sync-list -> Playlists), but MMW is restarted while making config changes then the (un)checks doesn't take effect (MMA reports "unable to contact remote server") until the config level is reloaded. i.e. until user goes one level up and down again in MMA (tracked as 0011424).

BTW: The user from the forum link indicated that his issue was resolved, he unchecked the playlists from Media Sharing -> Shared Content. Thus the playlists were not visible in MMA sync-list config at all (as designed), more info here:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=74040#p376650

So the bug seems to be, that the playlists unchecked in Media Sharing -> Shared Content, but checked on sync-list are not synced. To be fixed on MMW side.

Also as suggested by user here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=74040&start=15#p376719
Unshared playlists that have been selected for sync from MMW should still be displayed in MMA's options to allow them to be removed from the sync.

To be fixed on MMW side too.
