Summary | 0019615: MicroPlayer cannot be enabled in Windows 11 (add it as addon)
Description | When trying to enable MicroPlayer in Windows 11 the dialog is shown to enable it by right-clicking Taskbar, click Toolbars and enable 'MediaMonkey Player'. The problem is that this settings isn't available in Windows 11.

If custom toolbars aren't supported in Win11, a couple of possible alternatives could be: a) Add BACK, Artwork, Next buttons to the tray (where Artwork also serves to Play/Pause). Similar to https://github.com/evilpro/Taskplay. With this approach, the controls would be configured in Options > General > Minimization settings. b) Rely on a third party app such as https://github.com/AudioBand/AudioBand , by integrating MM into that Open Source product bii) Create our own version of AudioBand c) Rely on Rainmeter (integration work may be required) |
b) AudioBand also relies on ExplorerPatcher now (on Win 11) : https://audioband.github.io/AudioBand/audioband/Windows11.html |
Doing some testing and I can confirm that ExplorerPatcher works fine as a workaround to restore this functionality (be it AudioBand or the MM micro player) So as for the possible solutions for 5.0.5: A) Hide 'Switch to MicroPlayer' completelly on Windows 11 or B) upon trying to switch to MicroPlayer MM could redirect to a KB article (rather than showing the current dialog with a MicroPlayer not yet enabled in Toolbars). In the KB article we could note about the ExplorerPatcher need and how to install it etc. I guess that solution B) is preferrable for 5.0.5 ? As for possible solution for 5.1: I guess that adding something similar to TaskPlay (just configurable tray icons) should be an easy addition, on the other hand it would be just a very "lite" version of MicroPlayer |
B) I suppose the text can be something like: "The MicroPlayer is not yet enabled. View 'Help' button to enable it." Help can link to: https://www.mediamonkey.com/mmw/miniplayer Bii) On windows 11: Minimize to MicroPlayer --> Minimize to MicroPlayer (beta) Biii) I would also suggest that on upgrade from MMW4 to MMW5 (but not on upgrade from MMW5 to MMW5.x), the 'Minimize to microplayer' setting should automatically change to 'Minimize to toolbar'. That would prevent the hassle that some users experience on upgrading. On the other hand, it's probably not that important, since most users have already upgraded. After resolving the issue please assign to MartinW to document and then to me for the web portion. |
B) I wouldn't change the text for 5.0.5 (as it is already translated), but rather directly redirect to the KB article once the switch is being initialized. i.e. instead of showing the dialog open the KB article directly, do you agree? BTW: Why the link is https://www.mediamonkey.com/mmw/miniplayer and not https://www.mediamonkey.com/mmw/microplayer ? Bii) Can you eleborate? What the "beta" appendix should indicate and why it should be there at all? Biii) What is the point of "Minimize to toolbar" ? Isn't it rather confusing and easily mixed with the "tray icon" player? Thinking about all the hessle: Wouldn't it be better to just make the old MicroPlayer rather as an addon? In the addon install guidelines we could note that on Win 11 the ExplorerPatcher is needed to be installed and we can take care of it on addon install?? |
Let's remove the "Micro Player" option in course of related issue 0020460 Later we can add Micro Player back as addon (with a need to install also Explorer Patcher) as suggested above.. |
