Summary | 0005966: Manual Check for Updates
Description | I'm not sure why we removed it, but the manual update check should be re-implemented. The string is already there 'Check for updates (whenever connected)', and I assume the code is, as well. Is it simple to add it in (note: I'm hoping to reduce support calls with this by getting more users on the latest version) ?

The string is there, because it's an option in Options dialog. I don't think we have ever had such a manual check implemented in MM. We can certainly add it, but it would require new strings, at least something like 'no update found'. Such a function could be a new entry in Help menu and/or a button in About dialog. |
Silly me :-{ Ok, so: 1) The string should be changed so that it can be used in both places (in the config dialog, and in the Help menu just above the 'About MediaMonkey' entry): Check for updates (whenever connected) --> Check for updates 2) No updates found should appear in the status bar for e.g. 3 seconds, if no updates exist. |
2) Do you mean on _every_ start of MM? I think that many users (including me ;-) ) wouldn't like it. What about rather incorporating this info into the About dialog? I.e. something like: No new version available (last check 5/7/2009) [Check Now] <-- this is a button |
2) No -- I didn't mean to make any changes re. auto-check for updates. I was just indicating that when a manual check is performed, there should be some feedback provided to the effect that 'No updates found.' (otherwise the user will think that the manual update check just failed). |
