Summary | 0007755: Cannot easily access non-browsable networks
Description | In many cases, windows CIFS networks cannot be easily browsed (either in Explorer or in MM). In such cases, Explorer allows the user to enter the IP address (e.g. \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\" and then browse the network. In MediaMonkey: a) in the My Computer node, there's no way to enter the network path to browse (because the Navigation toolbar doesn't allow the user to enter text)! It would be preferable if the Navigation bar worked as in Win7. b) in the Add/Scan folders dialog, although it's possible to 'Add' a path to the shared machine (e.g. //192.168.1.187), it's not possible to expand that path to display child nodes--the user must manually enter each Windows share individually. It would be preferable for users to be able to enter the machine name OR IP address and MM figure out the shares contained within as in Windows 7.

I'm not sure how often a) would be needed, but fixing b) makes sense. We can decide then whether a) is really necessary. |

Assigned to Jiri for revise of point a) as adding Address bar to be editable we can: 1. implement quick search/browsing of subnodes for each tree node (Attached samples from Total Commander and Windows File Explorer. 2.Browsing network is now much Simpler MMW after bug 0010725 is fixed where existing UNC paths are listed under Network, so making Address bar editable user can easily enter UNC path and then continue to browse till desired folder is found for addition to Library. Currently User needs to use Windows File Explorer -> Copy desired path to Add To library and scan at least one file so that it will be shown in network tree nodes. Maybe pushing it for MM5? |

This is as much as we're going to do in MM4. We can open a new bug for MM5 if needed. |
